Yesterday i removed my KASPERSKY ANTIVIRUS 2009 and tried to install ESET SMART SECRUITY, but don't know why installation failed and after that BLUE SCREEN is started appearing(posted this problem in the Windows XP Home and Professional section), message is given below:

A problem has been detected and window has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

Driver_corrupted_mmpool

Check to make sure any new hardware or software properly installed. if this a new installation, ask you hardware of software manufactorer for any windows updates you might need.

If problem continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable bios memory option such as catching or shadowing....

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

step 0*000000dDo (0*00000002, 0*00000000 10*80543c06)

But then i used the 'DRIVER VERIFY MANAGER' utility and this blue screen problem got solved. After that i scanned my pc using MALWAREBYTES and 67 infections were found so i choose remove selected and the antivirus asked me to restart the computer, and that blue screen appeared again this time after restarting . So i think my pc is still infected coz i am facing different problems like Internet Connectivity Problem, software installation problem etc. No what to do?

Please reboot the computer Update mbam and run a FULL scan
Please post the results

Then

SAS,may take a long time to scan
Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)
  • In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.
  • Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.
  • Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.
  • Do not run a scan just yet.
Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows:
  • Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next".
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\reader_s.exe

This is virut

Your System is infected with Virut!!
Virut is a file infecting virus which is able to modify itself each and every time it runs. In addition, when it infects, sometimes it will destroy the file it tries to latch onto.
For these reasons, you really can't truly fix Virut. You will need to format/reinstall the operating system on this machine.

More information:
http://free.avg.com/66558

http://home.mcafee.com/VirusInfo/VirusProf...aspx?key=143034

W32/Virut.h is a polymorphic, entry point obscuring (EPO) file infector with IRC bot functionality. It can accept commands to download other malware on the compromised machine.
It appends to the end of the last section of executable (PE) files an encrypted copy of its code. The decryptor is polymorphic and can be located either:
Immediately before the encrypted code at the end of the last section
At the end of the code section of the infected host in 'slack-space' (assuming there is any)
At the original entry point of the host (overwriting the original host code)

Miekiemoes, one of our team members here and an MS-MVP, additionally has a blog post about Virut.

Right can the most recent Virut strains be removed, yes is the answer but inorder to achieve this then the amount of time and effort+tools that will need to be invested then it would be better to reformat and reinstall the computer from scratch.
This is my standard advice to anyone who is wrestling with a Virut infection currently.... full blooded R&R time!!!

That said some will still want to know how it can be done so here comes the current working solution and short explaination for actions.

You need either a live CD such as BartPE/Ultimate Boot to boot from or a 2nd pc to slave the infected pc to.
If you have niether then it's a no go folks.Virut will reinstall as quick as you can eradicate it when attempting removal from within the same OS.

When you have your 2nd enviroment to work from available.Run Dr Web Cure-IT(updated to most recent database).

You will need Cure-IT to scan every last thing on the infected PC so you will have to configure it to do so because running by default settings it will only run a quick scan(limited coverage).

Every last PE file will need to be disinfected so full scan is the only option!

Once this has been encomplished you will need to run an OS repair install to get OS integrity restored.

And the final bits of TLC,all installed software will need to be uninstalled and then reinstalled inorder to restore total software integrity.

This is an absolutely massive amount of work to be done there folks unfortunetly but it is possible.....but seriously tho reformat and reinstall is so much quicker!

from one of my mentors

And I actually heard of one case where it was done with an advanced tool in one night with an advanced poster and the author of the tool. Later the author released a statement, for all practical purposes Virut is incurable.

Hi Again,

Recently format my pc and re-install the window xp as my pc was infected with VIRUT, but it seems after formatting still my pc is infected with virut, ive read the article where the man was indicating how can virut infect your pc even after format and re-install process i.e installing drivers from infected pc again

But i didn't install any driver from my pc, i did using the CD which i got with my pc, installed some Programmes from the LOCAL DRIVE E though, Window xp and other sofwares were installed in LOCAL DRIVE C, so whats the problem?? Should i format rest of the LOCAL DRIVES as well like D(Containing Music and video files), E( Containing setups of some important softwares and some important documents) and F (Only Images)?

I cant format all drives completely coz cant afford to loose some precious data, plz suggest something  , here is the log of last scan:
