Hi,

I've just discovered that there is an account on my computer called ASP.NET MACHINE A...

It is a limited account which is also password protected.
I definitely did not create this account.

I'm just wondering if this account is a standard account set up on XP for remote assistance or has my PC been hacked?

You can safely ignore this entry. It is added when you install the microsoft net framework which may have been installed with another program or as a download by yourself.

This account is created when you install .NET Framework, an optional component from Microsoft which some software requires. It can safely be ignored.
