The computer runs really slow and has lots of popups that keep regenerating themselves. It also puts ads at the top of my browser window (on pages that don't usually have banner ads like livejournal).

Everytime I run ad-aware it finds over 600 problems. (Sometimes it bogs down so much that I have to run it on each section of my drive individually) I had a similar problem a couple months ago and it got so bad that I just ended up restore/recovering.

There also seems to be something called Top Text running that underlines words within the text of a webpage and tries to link me to "related" sites. I've uninstalled it like 3 times.

Please help?

Yikes!! That is kind of a mess, but I think we can get you fixed up. If you caould do me a favor. Could you verify that your definitions for Adaware and Spybot are up to date? If they are, then boot your system into safe mode and run both of them. That should make it a little easier on your system. Then reboot and post a new HJT log please. :flowers:

I was afraid it might be terrible! I did everything you asked (Adaware and Spybot had been updated yesterday before I posted that HJT log. Here's the updated one! Hopefully somewhat less infected with nasty viruses!

Ok, that's looking a little better. W estill have a ways to go though.

Go to Start => Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then click Ok.

1.) Scroll down and find Windows VisFx Components
2.) When you find it, double-click on it.
3.) In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on Properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled.
4.) Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

***********************************************************************

First, please put HijackThis in its own folder. It makes backups,
and it is best to keep them all in one place.
  • Click My Computer, then C:\
  • In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.

That will create a folder named New Folder.
  • Right click on the folder and select 'rename'
  • Rename to something like 'HJT' , and put Hijackthis in there.
***********************************************************************

Put a checkmark next to the following entries in HijackThis. Make sure all
other windows and browsers are closed before clicking on “Fix Checked”
.

You will need to empty your browser cache files:
This can be done by using the following steps:
  • 1. Start Internet Explorer.
  • 2. Click Tools > Internet Options.
  • 3. In the Temporary Internet Files section, then click the Delete Files button.
  • 4. Check Delete all offline content, and then click OK.
Reboot and post a new log. You have a really badly infected computer, so don't be surprised if this takes many steps yet.

I am sooooo sorry I lost you. Once in a while, the notifications get lost in the mail. Now we need to have you boot into safe mode by tapping f8 during boot up, and selecting safe mode.

Fix the following with HJT:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\eliteicd32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCShield] regsvr32 /s "C:\WINDOWS\System32\sfg.dll"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\vzrrrl.exe reg_run
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PCShield] regsvr32 /s "C:\WINDOWS\System32\sfg.dll

Reboot and post one last HJT log. If I don't get back to you within 24 hours of your response, feel free to drop me a PM.

That's so weird. I didn't get notification again. Must be a board glitch with my subscription.

And almost everything is still there. This time, let's try this...

Open notepad and paste in the following lines:

del c:\ *.tmp
del %temp%\*.tmp /f
del %windir%\prefetch\*.*
del %windir%\temp\*.* /f
del C:\documents and settings\*\local settings\temp\*.*

Save to desktop as 'clean.bat' , file types as 'all-files'. Don't run it yet.

Reboot. Tap f8 during boot up, and when the selection screen comes up, select safe mode. Fix the following lines with HJT (and make sure that all other windows are closed except for HJT):
O2 - BHO: CExtension Object - {0019C3E2-DD48-4A6D-ABCD-8D32436323D9} - C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vidctrl] C:\WINDOWS\system32\vidctrl\vidctrl.exe

While still in safe mode, set your system to show hidden files and folders:

Open My Computer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab. Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". Now click"Apply to all folders"

Click "Apply" then "OK

Delete the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vidctrl\vidctrl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSof1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\exp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wintask.exe

avimsp.exe
C:\Program Files\Cas\Client\casclient.exe
C:\temp\stubinstaller6480.exe
C:\Program Files\etea\rpen.exe

Reboot and post a new log. :flowers:

Thanks again! Here's the new log, and also there were a few I couldn't find, even when I searched my computer. The exp.exp one, the wintask.exe, VCMnet11.exe, and vzrrrl.exe reg_run avimsp.exe. I searched all files and folders and also looked under the filename and what not, but I got nothing!

Well, the good news is that I got notification this time. The bad news is that one file is still there... I am going to have to infect a test box and see what the deal is with that one, and why it won't go away. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Ok, here we go with the next part:

I need you to run the following programs and post the resulting logs when you are finished. In other words, I need 3 reports posted at once when all is finished.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Download FindQoologic-Narrator.zip save it to your Desktop.
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.ph...=post&id=134981

Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic. preferably to your desktop
Open the FindQoologic folder.
Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat file to run it.
When a text opens, post it in a reply to your thread.

2. Download the RKFiles.zip from here:
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip

Create a new folder called c:\Antispyware\RKFiles
Extract the contents of RKFiles.zip into this new RKFiles folder.

Then,

1. Reboot into Safe Mode

Restart and press the F8 key a few times after the BIOS loads -- the first thing you see when the pc "comes alive" and does its "self test" -- before windows loads).

2. Open the C:\Antispyware\RKFiles folder

* Locate and double-click the RKFILES.BAT to run this tool.
* Sit back and wait untill its finished.
* When it is finaly finished a text file will open.
* Save the contents of that text file.

Note: It should save by default to C:\Log.txt
* Find this log, right-click and rename it RKFiles_log.txt so you can post it later.

3. Reboot back to Normal Mode.

4. Post both logs as well as a new hijackthis log.
