I had been playing Civ 4 got tired and switched to some other games for awhile. Then came back and received this message:

Error Code: -5004 : 0x80041f42
Error Information:
*C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\12\00\Intel32\iKernel.dll
>inc\CoCreate.cpp (44)
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1390)
PAPP:Sid Meier's Civilization 4
PVENDOR:Firaxis Games (##IDS_PRODUCT_URL##)
PGUID:CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8
$11.0.0.28844

This would not allow me to play or uninstall. So I found this site and Revo Uninstaller, fantastic.
Removed the old rebooted and reinstalled. Started to play and now I get this message:
"Please insert the correct CD-Rom, select ok and restart application."
I've done this and CD 1 of Civ 4 is in my CD-Rom, but still receive this message "Cannot locate the CD-Rom"
Well couldn't find info about it here so I went to 2k games support and followed there instructions about uninstalling and reinstalling. Enter WinVista via safe mode and install game from copy saved in new folder. Did that. Did not solve the problem am still receiving
"Please insert the correct CD-Rom, select ok and restart application."
I've done this and CD 1 of Civ 4 is in my CD-Rom, but still receive this message "Cannot locate the CD-Rom"
Now I've used my cd-rom to play before and after all this and do not have any trouble using the cd-rom with the game
Call to Power 2 or Rise of Nations Just with Sid Meier's Civ 4.

What if anything can I do to install and play this game?

Try once again to uninstall and reinstall the game. See if it will allow you to uninstall normally now.

I've Revo Uninstall. I've uninstalled per 2k recommendation. It will not uninstall by way of Programs. I either have to use Revo or 2k recommendation. It also will not recognize the disc inside the cd-rom. But my cd-rom recognizes all my other discs I put in so I'm stumped. I was thinking it was my cd-rom but this is the only game(disc) that gets this response.

OK, I know this sounds dumb, but for some reason what worked for me was putting it in my DVD burner drive instead. (I too thought it was a drive problem . . .)

Good luck, and may your missionaries increase worship and your wealth.

Thanks
I've only the 1 cd-rom to use and from it I can play many other cd's but just not Sid Meier's Civ 4 which I had been playing from that cd-rom and now it refuses to acknowledge it but does acknowledge my other cd's I use.

Is the game disc scratched? Can you install it in any other system (just as a test)?
