Ok well it has been a while since I posted requesting help in here. I suppose that could be considered a good thing... Anyway I checked the "Preparation Guide For Use Before Using HijackThis and Other Malware Removal Tools" thread just to double check the proper way to post in here and noticed you guys mention to use a program called "DDS". I have never used this in the past, I have always only used HijackThis but I will, for the sake of covering all my bases, included both the DDS files and the HijackThis report.

Ok on to the problem at hand. I will list the problems as I remember them in the order of when they happened (hopefully, knowing my memory...) starting with the more recent problems.
(1.) What has happened recently is I have noticed that my processor has been maxing out at 100% doing things that would normally not require more than maybe 20% of the processor.
(2.) I have recently done some fairly major creation/deletion/moving of files in hopes of lowering the amount of junk on my computer. I have also run a defragmentation on my hard drive but it is hard to tell if it really worked because whereas in Windows XP the disk defragmentation tool gave you the ability to analyze your hard drive and then actually watch the progress as it defragmented the hard drive, Windows Vista only gives you the ability to "Defragment Now" and then all you can do to tell whether or not it is done is to stare at the little 'Vista Wheel' until it stops. (If anyone knows of a better tool to defragment hard drives that is free and has much the same qualities as the XP version please let me know)
(3.) I am currently without any virus protection of a sort. Well the thing is that I have McAfee Security Center installed, which came installed from the factory, but it cannot update because of the problem listed in #4.
(4.) Currently Microsoft thinks that I am running an illegitimate version of Windows Vista. I believe this occurred when I installed a certain program. Well I uninstalled the program but I don't know how to verify with Microsoft that I am running a legitimate version of Windows Vista. Because Microsoft currently believes that I am running some kind of pirated copy of Vista they refuse to send me windows updates and as I stated above in #3 when I stopped getting updates from Microsoft I also have been unable to get updates for McAfee. Oh McAfee keeps popping up saying that it needs to update but whenever I tell it to it comes back saying that it was unable to update.

It has also been a very long time since I checked for malware and since then I have uninstalled the program I used to scan my system. I have currently been using Spybot Search and Destroy for most of my needs but if you guys could look at the files and just double check to see if I do have some malware that I need to get rid of that would be great.

Here is the HijackThis report...

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

R,
K
