Well this all started 24 hours ago...My Symantec Endpoint provided by my college was acting funny. It wouldn't do a "Full" scan. It would simply scan about 8,000 files and then stop as Complete. I also have full blown McAfee and it wasn't finding anything at all. So I went through the hassle of uninstalling my Symantec and grabbing the latest installation package. It was taking forever to load, but it eventually installed.

Then upon my first scan it was running into a file in the Windows 32 folder called VirusRemoval.vbs and NewVirusRemoval.vbs. Doing some research these turned out to be old virus deletion files. It kept running into files like these dll.dll and others that I'd heard were viral. It was also taking 20 mins to slog through just ONE of these files. So I shut down the Symantec Scan and switched into McAfee. Today McAfee said it didn't find anything. However just to double check I snagged MalwareBytes as a recomendation. It found This:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\regfile\shell\open\command\ (Broken.OpenCommand) -> Bad: ("regedit.exe" "%1") Good: (regedit.exe "%1") -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Upon deletion and restarting my PC ran a ChkDsk scan and found one or two files to be fixed. Then upon logging in Symantec immediately blares out This:

3/19/2009 15:02 Bloodhound.Boot on harddiskVolume1

It only logged it and was unable to delete, clean, or quarantine.

When I attempted to do the above three manually it noted that the file had already been deleted or moved.

I get this warning everytime I start the PC.

Upon attempting to install DDS I get this:

'FINDSTR.EXE' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I really do not know what to do now other than to offer up the HiJack this line. If someone could please inform me on what to do from here on out that would be greatly appreciated. You have my thanks.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
