Please download, update and run (one at a time of course!) Spybot Search & Destroy v1.4and Ad-aware SE v1.06. Fix whatever they suggest.

If you would like to learn more about how to use these two programs with the proper settings you can read the tutorials below:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer.

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer.

Anti-trojan
Please download, update and run the A2 (A squared) anti-trojan. You can download it free at http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/ . Let it fix whatever it wants to.

Anti-virus

Also, run this pc through the Panda Scan Online virus scanner.
Online Virus Scanners FAQ

Next, please reboot & post a fresh HijackThis log. If you have any problems with one part of this instruction make a note of it and continue onto the next section. Let me know any problems in your next post

Hi Groovicus,
I've done all those steps now!

Since i've installed a2 anti-trojan guard, its alerted me when i try to start firefox 1.0.4.
It says,
Found possible backdoor behaviour

and when i allow the program once, it says,
Found a possible LAN bypass backdoor or spyware

Is this an issue for concern?

Also, i get this popup msg:
C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
Found possible backdoor behaviour

Can you advise me on what to do with these?

Pandascan found a spyware named Searchcentrix, but did not give instuctions on how to remove it. I read that it only adds a toolbar to IE and changes its home page though.

Here is the HJT log after following your steps and a reboot.

Put a checkmark next to the following entries in HijackThis. Make sure all
other windows and browsers are closed before clicking on “Fix Checked”
.

Now boot into safe mode and run Adaware and Spybot again. Then reboot and post a new log.

That looks pretty good, you have to make sure your browser is closed, though, when making the fixes, otherwise they won't work.

Fix these with HJT:
O16 - DPF: {11113111-1411-1611-8111-111111111413} -
O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} -

And that should be it. Is your system still doing things that it isn't supposed to be?

Hi, groovicus!

Thanks so much for your help!

Everything seems fine except when i open mozilla firefox, i get this msg from asquared guard:

Posted Image

then when i click allow this program, it gives me this msg:

Posted Image

In the firefox options i unchecked "check for updates automatically" and i still get those msgs from asquared guard.

I uninstalled firefox, then reinstalled it and same behaviour.

Do you have any idea what this could be?

Thanks!

It's a false positive. Select 'allow always' and you won't get that any more. Now would be a good time to disable your system restore, then re-eanble it:

Working with system restore

If you are no longer having any problems, than that should be it.

Hi Groovicus,
I followed your instructions..

The last odd behaviour is that this keeps popping up:

Posted Image

even when i click terminate program, it pops up about every 5 minutes.

Sometimes zone alarm will pop up an alert and say it is trying to at as a server, and i deny it.

Do you know what this is?

Yes.. that's Microsoft's Messenger. A2 is just being overly sensitive. Actually, Messenger doesn't need to be running on boot up anyway. It just consumes system resouces.
