This post is for a referal from the Windows 95/98*Grinler forum where I was diagnosed with a CWS infection.
I was told that this was the place to go for help.

I have run both, Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot Search and Deystroy but am currently re-running them just to be sure before I go to HijackThis. (Which I could use some help with)

Any help or assistance would be greatly apreciated. And if more information is required please just let me know.

Thanks.

Hello Dom Hollow

Please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Save it to it’s own folder (not temporary files or the desktop). Close all open windows and open HIJACK THIS. Click “Scan” . When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to“Save Log”. Click on“Save Log” and save it to NotePad. Copy the entire log and paste it here. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET , most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed. Wait for someone to analyze the scan and advise

Heres a problem I am unable to run HijackThis.
After following the steps in the HijackThis turorial when it finaly comes time to actually run the program I double click on it and all that comes up is a box that says "Unexpected Error" and only gives me the option to click "OK".
All the title bar reads is HijackThis.

I have downloaded the program several times and in several different ways and each time it does the same thing.
In fact the CWShredder that I installed does the same thing.

I posted about this earlier in the Windows 95/98*Grinler forum and was advised to try and change the name of the program to hj.exe. This unfortunatly did not work either. I hoped that downloading it a different way may have helped, it did not.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong.

By the way thanks for the initial response I apreciate the help.

Chances are that you don't have all of the VB files necessary to run the program. They can be downloaded from Microsoft's site:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb6.../vbrun60sp5.exe

Download and install those, and then see if it will work.

I'll let Lobos handle this now since he started with you in the first place (Sorry Lobos.. didn't mean to step on your toes).

If Lobos doesn't get back to you in a day or so, PM me and I will be glad to continue helping. :thumbsup:

Hi Dom Hallow

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download, unzip to your desktop CWShredder and run it, then:

1. Click "Check For Update" make sure your version is 2.14

(If an update isn't available, skip to step #4.)

2. Click "Click here to Download the upate".
3. When the new version has been downloaded, click "Save".
4. Click "Fix ->"

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

NavHelper

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\NAVEXCEL\NAVHELPER\V2.0.4D\NAVAPP.EXE

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Thanks a lot Lobos the computer seems to be working better already.

Just a couple of things,

The files that you listed for deleting:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSAUH.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IE2CLTR.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SPOWA.DLL

Either weren't present (which is fine) or I didn't show every hiddin file that I should have.

As well:
"Run an online antivirus check from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites. ...select autoclean click below."

I'm not sure where I select autoclean?

And the last thing:
What is an av log? And where do I find it to post?

Thanks again for the help.

Hi Dom

after it installs the definitions to your hardrive it will ask you what drives to scan

on that screen should be an autoclean button or something similar if not then just just let it scan

after the scan it should ask you if you would like to save the scan

AV = Anti Virus

Post any of the anti virus scans if they could not clean or delete anything
If they don't give you that otion take note of where they are and post the path with the name of the file

Also post another Hijack this Log

How is you computer running by the way

First off just let me say this probably is in large part my fault. I posted some time ago about problems I was having with spy-ware and got some excellent help. However, life came up and it got incredibly busy and I didn't follow the last few steps in fixing the problem like I should have. Those last post have unfortunately been removed. So here I am hat in hand to try and fix this again.

The last time I went through I got all the way up to the results of the HJT scan and was in the process of running some on-line virus scans. I was unsuccessful in running those scans at the time because my computer was blocking Active X. This has been cleared up.

As best as I can remember I believe I had and nasty batch of spy-ware but I am not 100% as to what I am dealing with now.

The last time I did the Panda scan I believe it said that I had 46 viruses and 25 different bits of spy-ware (all guesstimates). This was yesterday.

As well the computer is now running in safe mode.

Again I thank you for your time and apologize for having to tread over this same ground again. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if you need more specifics.

Did panda clean them all ? If not did you save the scan Log from the panda Log ?
If you did please post it

As well the computer is now running in safe mode.

Are you stuck in safe mode or can you get into normal mode?

Can you post another hijack this log please.

Hey Lobos,
Thanks again for your patience and assistance it is greatly apreciated.

I am not sure if the computer is actually stuck in safe mode as I have no idea how to get it out of this mode normaly. If you could give me a few tips here that would be great.

As for the Panda Scan I am about to re-run the program and I will post the results shortly but I know that it only disinfected to of the viruses.

Here is the new HJT log:
