Re: now I keep seeing a tiny Aroura popup when ever I open IE... And there is a process running in my pc that re-opens every time I shut it down but it just uses another random name and I can't close it completely. I have tried 30+ times in a row to no sucess. It only takes 184~188 k of mempry usage...It is annoying to say the least because It prevents me from playing some online game (listed as www.Nexon.co.kr)...

Hello LCD_ON_LSD and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download and install ewido security suite. Update the program and then close it. Do not run it yet.

Now we need to remove a service.

Part 1
  • Click Start>Run, type services.msc into the Open editbox and click the Ok button.
  • Locate the System Startup Service service and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog.
  • Click the Stop button.
  • In the Startup type dropdown select Disabled.
  • Click the Apply button and then the Ok button.
  • Close the Services window
Part 2
  • Click Start>Run, type cmd into the Open editbox and click the Ok button.
  • Copy/paste the line below into the Command Prompt window and press the Enter key:
    • sc delete SvcProc
  • Close the Command Prompt window
Remove these installed programs using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel:
  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • Look in the Currently installed programs box for each program listed below and if it is there:
  • Click on it to select it.
  • Click Change (or Change/Remove) button.
  • If you are prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes.
K-Lite (and anything else with Kazaa in the name)
Step #2

Download nailfix.zip and unzip it to its own folder.

Step #3

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #4

Navigate to the folder you unzipped nailfix.zip into and double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Step #5

Start ewido and click on the Scanner button. On the Scanner page click on My Computer and then click the Start button to begin the scan. Let it run to completion and fix anything that it finds.

Step #6

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KAZAA] C:\Program Files\K-Lite\khancer.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [myLinker] C:\PROGRA~1\myLinker\myLinker.exe /B
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fheesoi] c:\windows\system32\hoakioa.exe r
O9 - Extra button: CIAI¸¶AIA? - {ECC5777A-6E88-BFCE-13CE-81F134789E7B} - C:\Documents and Settings\Boyd\Application Data\HiMyCar\himycar.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: CIAI¸¶AIA? - {ECC5777A-6E88-BFCE-13CE-81F134789E7B} - C:\Documents and Settings\Boyd\Application Data\HiMyCar\himycar.exe

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #7

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\Program Files\K-Lite\ <--folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\myLinker\ <--folder
c:\windows\system32\hoakioa.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Boyd\Application Data\HiMyCar\ <--folder

Step #8

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Ok, I followed the directions to the "T" and ewido took forever... I guess that's what you get with 420gb of hdd's... But when I re-booted and ran HijackThis.... there is Nail.exe again!!! :flowers: Yeah! :trumpet: Where did I go wrong!?!?!?!?! :inlove: Thank you so much so far for the help to this point...I am patiently awaiting the next great chapter in this saga....
Anyway, Here is the latest and greatest from my Personal Confusor...

Hi LCD_ON_LSD. But the question is is Nail.exe still there or is the it only the entry that is left in the log. Go to C:\WINDOWS\ and see if the Nail.exe file is still there. Sometimes the files are removed but the registry entries are not.

There is still a file in there that concerns me and we might have an infection here that is not showing up completely in the log so let's do a check for that.

Let's run a couple of scans to see if there is anything that might not be showing up in the log.

Download PFind.zip and unzip the contents to its own permanent folder.

Important! Reboot in SAFE MODE !!

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the pfind.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer and could take a little while so be patient. When the DOS window closes, reboot back to normal mode.

After you have rebooted start HijackThis and follow these steps:
  • Click on Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Check the checkbox for List minor sections (full)
  • Check the checkbox for List empty sections (complete)
  • Click on the Generate StartupList Log button
  • Click the Yes button to create the list
Post the contents of C:\pfind.txt and the information from the StartupList back here and I will review it when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Hi LCD_ON_LSD. Well those scans did not show anything out of the ordinary so let's continue as follows.

Step #1

Download CCleaner and install it but do not run it yet.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it to your desktop.

Double-click on KillBox.exe to launch the program.
  • Highlight the lines below and press the Ctrl key and the C key at the same time to copy them to the clipboard:
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
c:\windows\system32\gyevin.exe

[/list]
  • Now go to the Killbox application and click on the File menu and then the Paste from Clipboard menu item. In the Full Path of File to Delete box you should see the first file. If you dropdown that box you should see the rest of them. Make sure that they are all there.
  • Click on the Delete on Reboot option and then click on the red circle with a white 'X' in to to delete the files. Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot, click YES. When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES. If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.
Your system will reboot now.

Step #2

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cbwbtv] c:\windows\system32\gyevin.exe r

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #3

Start CCleaner and click on the Run Cleaner button in the lower right-hand corner. When it is finished close CCleaner.

Step #4

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

OT

Hi LCD_ON_LSD. That log looks clean. Good job! How are things running now? Any more problems?

It does appear that there are 2 anti-virus applications running on this computer. It is not recommend to have that because they can actually work against each other causing files access issues and cancelling each other out. Bot Norton and AVG are good products so i highly recommend that you keep the one you like the best and remove the other one to prevent any problems.

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
* CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:and a good antivirus like the one you are currently using. It is critical to have both a firewall and an anti-virus application and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners
weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!

Hi LCD_ON_LSD. I'm not a gamer so I can't really help you there but we do have an excellent forum for gamers that has some good people in it that can help you. I would suggest posting your question in the Gaming forum here:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Games-f20.html

or the XP forum here:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Win...0_2003-f56.html

As far as training goes, there are a number of "schools" on the net that teach trainees how to deal with malware. Here are some links if you are interessted:

Geek-U at Geeks To Go
The University at Tech Support Forums (just use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page to tell them you are interessted)
The Classroom at Tom Coyote (use the Admission to Classroom link on the main page to send a message requesting admittance)

You will need to register as a member at any of these sites to request admittance into the training programs and they do take time and effort so be prepared to dedicate a part of each day to learning and training.

Now that your issues have been resolved I will close this topic. If you need it reopened for this same issue then please PM me. If you have any new issues in the future then please start a new topic.

Cheers.

Keep on computing!

OT
