I currently have Windows 98se on my system. However, a colleague has given me a copy of Windows ME which he says is a much better operating system. How do I go about installing it and I will I lose all my current programs? I would appreciate and assistance. AMO

Hi AMO,
Do yourself a huge favour and don't bother. Windows ME is an abomination - it was the first attempt to combine the Plug and Play user friendliness of Win98 with the stability of Windows NT, with a few of the bells and whistles of XP (then under development) plastered on top. It has some pretty user interfaces and it does some clever multimedia stuff but it's not stable. Wait till you can get a system that will run XP.

hth,

Windows XP Home SP2, Trend Micro Internet Security, Firefox, Thunderbird, AdAwareSE, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster, A-squared Free, Ewido Security Suite.

I agree with Rimmer, stay away from ME. If I could pick to operating systems to install and support that I have used..and I go all the way back to earlier versions of DOS. I would install Windows 98SE and XP. 98SE for any computer that is less than a Pentium III or another CPU equivalent, and XP for anything with a higher end PIII to the latest processors.

I really don't see any huge advantage of moving to ME.(notice I didn't use the word upgrade).

Is there a reason you want to move to ME? :flowers:
