Attached File  hijackthis.log   10.56KB   5 downloadsHi,

Sorry for long post but I wanted to put down what this thing does to PC's!!

I've been trying to clear the (extremely difficult to clear!) Vundo/Zlob/Antivirus 2009 infections from a friends laptop for a couple of days.

When he brought it to me it would load NO websites, Blue screened on 'safe mode' start up (virus had disabled video drivers), had disabled all antivirus apps/firewalls/Windows updates etc, it kept restarting the laptop and also after downloading new utilities and AVG it would not let any of them update and lots more disruption besides these, too numerous to remember!
Even when I was able to load websites it would not allow me into any security websites that would help to disinfect the machine! Also would not let me install the Malware Bytes 'Anti malware' program etc. I got round this by renaming the install exe and running it asap after Windows loaded.... this worked! When I ran Spyhunter the virus kept shutting Windows down too! When I finally managed to run a scan on AVG (which I hadn't been able to update, but I figured as this had been in the system for months ---- yeah I know!!!!) that AVG would probably find it without updating at first. Well, that made the virus mad and it actually pretended to restart Windows by putting a FAKE blue screen up then a FAKE Windows XP splash screen (could tell it was fake as it had 'update antivirus 2009' etc written underneath a fake Windows XP logo! It had a couple of other fake screens too, then when it pretended it had restarted Windows, the AVG scan was still running! It performed this FAKE blue screen/restart numerous times (the blue screen doesn't fill the screen which made me suspicious!).

Next I installed Spybot/Spyhunter, ran Combofix, rootkit revealers, checked the registry etc. etc. and all sorts more. Infact everything that these forums suggested.
Everything then finally ran 'clear of infections' except for spyhunter which after detecting nothing, on every restart kept finding 126 registry entries (porn website entries etc) - which it detected as Zlob.Trojan... but could possibly have been a 'false positive'?. This has not happened for the last few times of restarting though. So fingers crossed. Spyhunter has some 'activex' items blocked too.

I think I have FINALLY got rid, but wondered if one of you experts on here could possibly have a check through my HijackThis log Please.

Many, many thanks in advance to you busy wonderful people!!
Cheers,
Caroline, Chester UK.

Hello Caroline,

Posted Image

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Can you now update MBAM? Please have a run with it and post the report in your reply, if there's anything to report. :thumbup2:

Could I please see an uninstall list?

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Thanks,
tea

Hi Tea,

Many thanks for the quick response.

I had already turned off system restore, and turned it back on. I did so many things that there wasn't space to list them all, even if I could remember!!

I have now d/loaded and used ATF, thanks, what a great little tool that is.

Just completed MBAM scan..... NOTHING found!! :thumbup2:

Here's my HijackThis 'uninstall list' report (I have now noticed a few 'Windows Live Toolbar' entries?):

(REMEMBER THIS ISN'T MY PC!! :) )

Thanks again,
Caroline.

Hi there,

No worries, and you're welcome. :)

Did you install SpyHunter and SpyNoMore? :thumbup2: Uninstall them both. http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/spynomore.com

Empty the recycle bin and reboot afterwards. How is it running please?

I will, thanks....

Just an addition....

MSN in the 'Uninstall list' links to:

C:\Program Files\MSN\MsnInstaller\msninst.exe /Action:ARP
This is shown in internet forums as w32.kuskus.worm..... maybe?

Cheers, will uninstall Spyhunter and SpyNoMore now and then restart and update findings here......

Hello,

That file is most likely legit where it is. :thumbup2: I would worry if it were in another location.

Hi again,

Have uninstalled both Spyhunter and SpyNoMore.

Restarted laptop, nothing in Recycle bin to delete.

Have run AVG antivirus scan.... nothing found apart from (a few recent cookies) and 3 BT diallers!! I think they may be false positives though, going by some reports...

"C:\Program Files\Online Services\BTYahoo\HPPre05.msi:\Data1.cab:\btwebcontrol.dll"
"C:\Program Files\Online Services\BTYahoo\HPPre05.msi:\Data1.cab"
"C:\Program Files\Online Services\BTYahoo\HPPre05.msi"

I am waiting to hear from my friend (by text) as to whether they still use BT Internet (affiliated to Yahoo in Britain) as a dial up occasionally, if not I will delete these three.
I think they only use Broadband/Wireless though so should be able to get rid :)

They asked me what I wanted for fixing it (it was totally unusable when they brought it to mine).... As they are friends I wouldn't charge them but said if they really wanted to get me something to get me a bottle of wine :thumbup2: I've been there in my early PC days so know how it feels.
To be honest I enjoy these challenges and I thought.... "I won't let you beat me!!". It's been a learning curve to say the least!
I've built a couple of desktops in the past and really enjoy this as a hobby.

So, many thanks again and hopefully I've managed to eradicate these nasties!!
Cheers,
Caroline (yes.... a girl!).

Yes, those are nothing to worry about. :)

This: Messenger Plus! Live & Sponsor (CiD) is something to potentially worry about. Are you getting popups or anything? That dork who makes Plus! cannot put a product out without using the LOP infection to make his money. :thumbup2: That really should be uninstalled and reinstalled without the sponsors.

Yeah, I'll have a look at msgplus, thanks. I never install the sponsor when I have that on my PC, but as I said.... not mine!
Not getting any signs that is a problem nope.

Thanks again,
Caroline.

..............Have clicked on the 'messenger plus live + sponsor' entry in add/remove programs and it says that 'the sponsor program has been damaged by a third party' and 'you need to reinstall messenger plus to uninstall the sponsor properly'

Is that best left as it is now then?

Cheers,
Caroline

Nope....reinstall it like it says, then uninstall it. You nuked the LOP files and it knows that, hence the message.
