First, please put HijackThis in its own folder. It makes backups,
and it is best to keep them all in one place.
  • Click My Computer, then C:\
  • In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.

That will create a folder named New Folder.
  • Right click on the file and select 'rename'
  • Rename to something like 'HJT' , and put Hijackthis in there.

Reboot and post a new log, and I will help you remove the rest. :D

You still need to first put HJT into it's own folder as directed, or you will have backups scattered all over your desktop

Please post a fresh log....

You can go ahead and remove Wintools:

To remove Wintools,

1. Boot into SAFE MODE by tapping the f8 key during boot up.
2. Kill running entries by ctrl, alt and del for Wintools. (Kill all references to anything that has Wintools in it.)
3. Uninstall Wintools from Add/Remove. it will prompt for reboot. Do that and reboot.

Then we will proceed once HJT is in it's own folder, and I see a fresh log.

Open that folder that you created, and make sure there is a copy og HJT in there. If there is, delete the one on your desktop. Run the one from inside that folder.

Put a checkmark next to the following entries in HijackThis. Make sure all
other windows and browsers are closed before clicking on “Fix Checked”
.

Nope...moved many years ago.

Anyway, we missed on entry.

Put a checkmark next to the following entries in HijackThis. Make sure all
other windows and browsers are closed before clicking on “Fix Checked”
.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WebRebates0] "C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\WebRebates0.exe"

***********************************************************************

Boot into SAFE MODE by tapping the f8 key during boot up.

Delete the following:

C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates <-- folder

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

************************************************************************

You could still remove this line with HJT also:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RealTray] C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe SYSTEMBOOTHIDEPLAYER

This just prevents Real Player from starting when you boot the system. It still runs from it's icon, but this way it doesn't use system resources until you actually use it.

How is yous system working now??

did as instructed. here is a new log. the system is certainly running much faster, no pop-ups, but still "odd" things running when I do the Ctl+Alt+Del thing after turning on. Things that I don't recognize. I assume they're showing up on the log, though, and how are things looking???

The only things I see that are unusual are these three lines:
O2 - BHO: NLS UrlCatcher Class - {AEECBFDA-12FA-4881-BDCE-8C3E1CE4B344} - C:\WINNT\system32\nvms.dll
O2 - BHO: CB UrlCatcher Class - {CE188402-6EE7-4022-8868-AB25173A3E14} - C:\WINNT\system32\mscb.dll
O2 - BHO: ADP UrlCatcher Class - {F4E04583-354E-4076-BE7D-ED6A80FD66DA} - C:\WINNT\system32\msbe.dll

I can't identify them, and I don't like recommending something for removal unless I am 100% sure what they are. They appear to be related to advertising, but I can't verify that.

Go ahead and remove them with HJT. If something doesn't work after you remove them, then they can be re-installed from the backups. Make sure your browser is closed before making the changes though. They will not hurt your internet access in any way.

Other than that, your log looks clean. What unidentified processes are you wondering about?
