Hello,
I have a Memorex DVD +-RAM 530L v1 drive that I installed into my PC when my previous failed.
This was done a few months ago and it seemed to work just fine then (I use the drive rarely). When attempting to use the drive this week it would not recognize my new tax prep CD. I then tried testing the drive with a music CD and an old tax prep CD, it worked it without much hesitation. Why would it only recognize/play certain CDs and not others? When checking the properties of the drive it says the drive is OK (working).

Is this a hardware issue, driver issue or what? Any thoughts would be appreciated  !

Cordially,
Clive

Are you sure the new cd works? Have you tested it in another computer?

Also, if you go into my computer with the disc in, what happens if you click the drive? Does it detect it or even say a disc is in it?

Hello,
Yes, the CD worked on my laptop without a problem. When the CD is inserted I get a disc icon that will flash usually twice and then nothing. If I go to Window Explorer and check the drive, there's nothing to indicate that a disc is even in the machine.

Does the drive show in My Computer? If it doesn't check your data cable

If it does go to the Device Manager and uninstall the drivers and then reboot the computer. When the computer restarts the installation wizard will assign new drivers for the drive.

Well, it is likely your drive doesn't like that CD. Not all drives read equally, some struggle with certain media (which is why I have so many DVD drives as I know at least one will stand a chance of reading/recovering some data). Find a machine that will read the disk and burn a copy and see if it is readable in your Memorex. No need for a long copyright discussion.
