Hello. My windows defender came up with the following a couple of days ago: 'SettingsModifier:Win32/PossibleHostsFileHijack'. In defender, I tried several times using the 'clean' action as well as the 'remove' and 'quarantine' actions. I have Hijack This installed so I very stupidly tried using it even though I don't really have a clue. It came up with a warning saying that the system had denied it 'write access to the hosts file' and that it may not be fixed using the 'fix' button. I found the 'hosts' line in the report and clicked fix. The problem didn't go away unfortunately. Now the line isn't appearing on anymore hijack this scan reports yet defender is still showing there is a problem. I tried following hijack this instructions of editing the hosts file: deleting the suspicious line and saving as 'hosts.' (including quotation marks as instructed by hijack this), but I wasn't allowed to save the new hosts file even though I'd run notepad 'as administrator' on vista. I was told I didn't have the necessary user privileges even though I'm logged on using what I thought was the only administrator account: I only have this account (this is my everyday account) and a 'guest' account. Any and all help will be much, much appreciated. Thank you.
