Bought a new PC and I want to replace Vista with XP (long story... gotta keep wife happy  ).

I changed the settings in BIOS so that the PC will boot off the CD. I insert xp cd in the drive and when I try to boot off the cd, nothing happens except that it'll start in windows. I messed with the settings in BIOS and tried again & again and @ some point it seams like it wants to but it asks for a boot disk.???

For the heck of it, I tried that same xp disk in my older pc to see if it works in cd boot start up mode and it works fine.

Do I need an XP boot disk to start and where do I get one?

Thanks in advance.

If the same disk works in one computer and not the other, then it's most likely a problem with the CD drive in the one it doesn't work in. Try cleaning the CD really well, just in case it's just a slight difference between the 2.

It's a new disk & flawless and the PC that it doesn't work is the brand spank'n new one. I can go "Computer" and start any cd/dvd from there or just pop in the dvd in the drive and it'll auto play but that's no0t how to install windows over another windows. So to format my drive, I need to start the PC in CD boot mode and it's not doing so.

I'm sure I need a cd boot disk......... I could be wrong. Where can I get one?

Anyone else have ideas?
