hello
I have a compaq presario 8000. that was working great.good internet speeds and betworked with another computer. i have alot of files on the hard drive on the problem computer that i need.
i unplugged the hard drive to try another hard drive i had laying around (which didnt work either ). i put the other back in and when the computer boots it says "operating system not found"

i tried to boot from cd with the original xp disk and it appears to be going through the boot up but then says hard drive not detected.

i hooked it basvk up exactly as the original config.
please help

this is my girlfriends sons computer and lets just say if its not working he will be a little upset with me.

Reconnect the drive...check the BIOS to see if it is reflected properly there. I would check the connections.

thanks
i reconnected ,checked the connections and restarted.
-screen comes up with "press f1 to enter setup
-will not enter setup

Hmmm...wild guess, but you have nothing to lose by changing your CMOS battery.

hello
i replaced the battery as suggested
entered the bios and it is showing no primary or secondary master just the cd rom drive
any suggestions

i just connected 2 different drives and they were both detected in the bios
i cant boot from original cd
