Computer randomly freezes and starts making loud noises

Hello. So my computer just randomly freezes at times. It makes a loud crashing sound and the keyboard and mouse doesn't respond at all. It's also does without the sounds sometimes.
I'm on a WinXP Home SP3 Dell Vostro 1500, 2GB Ram.
This usually happens when using an resource heavy applications such as Firefox and my PC Games. It also happens when I use Microsoft word.
I gotten to a point when I uninstalled all my games, bluetooth software, and other applications I haven't used in a while. I ran an AVG scan, Spybot Search & Destroy scan, and a Malwarebytes Scan. None of the scans have found anything. I also have used CCleaner in the past.
So I'm in dire need of help to find what's wrong with my computer.

Have a look in the Event Viewer for any errors at the time of the freezes.

To open the Event Viewer go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Alternately, go to Start > Run and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

Check in all the categories.

If you find an error that occurred at the time right-click on it and select properties. Copy the information in the window and post it back here. This will help us diagnose your problem.

The symptoms you describe could be symptomatic of a variety of things to include hardware/software issues, overheating caused by a failed processor fan, bad memory (RAM), failing or underpowered power supply, CPU overheating, motherboard, video card, faulty or unsigned device drivers, CMOS battery going bad, BIOS and firmware problems, dirty hardware components, programs hanging or unresponsive in the background, and even malware. If the computer is overheating, it usually begins to shutdown/restart on a more regular basis. If you're not finding any malware then its sounds like one of the latter problems.

Note: Some video cards can generate such intense heat while playing games with high quality graphics that they require a separate cooling system. If that fan fails, the video processor will not be far behind and your system may start crashing. If the video card needs replacing, see "Illustrated How to Replace an AGP Video Card".

When Windows XP detects a problem from which it cannot recover, it displays Stop Error Messages which contain specific information that can help diagnose and resolve the problem detected by the Windows kernel. An error message can be related to a broad number of problems such as driver conflicts, hardware issues, read/write errors, and software malfunctions. In Windows XP, the default setting is for the computer to reboot automatically when a fatal error or crash occurs. You may not see the error code because the computer reboots too fast.

You can check in Event Viewer as Budapest recommends.

Another alternative is to turn off the automatic reboot feature so you can actually see the error code/STOP Message when it happens - this is also known as the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD).

To change the recovery settings and Disable Automatic Rebooting, go to Start > Run and type: sysdm.cpl
Click Ok or just press WINKEY + Pause/Break keys to bring up System Properties.
  • Go to the Advanced tab and under "Startup and Recovery", click on the "Settings" button and go to "System failure".
  • Make sure "Write an event to the system log" is checked and that "Automatically restart" is unchecked.
  • Click "OK" and reboot for the changes to take effect.
Vista users can refer to these instructions: How To Disable the Automatic Restart on System Failure in Windows Vista.

Doing this won't cure your problem but instead of crashing and restarting you will get a blue diagnostic screen with an error code and other information to include file(s) that may be involved which will allow you to better trace your problem. Write down the full error code and the names of any files/drivers listed, then provide that information in your next reply so we can assist you with investigating the cause.

Ok, I checked the event viewers. I kept seeing this:
The Nero BackItUp Scheduler 4.0 service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

I pretty sure I uninstalled that.
I also saw one of this:
The server {DC0C2640-1415-4644-875C-6F4D769839BA} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

I also already had disabled automatic rebooting. My laptop still freezes without the BSOD and writing an event to the system log.

I would try blowing out the vents on the computer with a can of compressed air to ensure that they are not clogged with dust, which can lead to overheating.
