Tried replacing the CD drive or rerecording The Sims CD onto another CD, as it may be scratched?

Regards,

Dave.

PROBLEM: Tried Installing Sims (Original game - not an expansion) onto my Laptop for my nephew to play. The CD player turns like it is trying to read it but does not recognize there is a disk in there. Even when I go to the Windows Explorer and do a search to prompt it to look there it says there is no disk. What would usually cause this? According to my nephew, it loads fine on my brothers PC. I run Win XP. I have run all updates to XP and a few extra that I may not even need, but nothing works. Other CDs seem to load. Another game giving me a hard time is his "Crazy Drake" game. I am seeing a repetition issue with EA games when I see this. (I'll post Crazy Drake question separately.) Any help at all would be great! I have the Everest program on so if specifics are needed to help, let me know. This is my first posting so pardon me if I have broken any posting etiquette. Thanks in advance for your help! I really appreciate it!

Place another CD in the drive and see if you can explore what's on it using Windows Explorer or My Computer.

You might try using a CD drive cleaner. Failing that, you'll probably have to replace the CD-Rom.
