About 75% of the time I open (double left click) My Documents or any sub folders therein I get this:

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 ModName: explorer.exe
ModVer: 6.0.2900.5512 Offset: 00011900

after which it closes, all the icons disappear from the desktop momentarily, and the taskbar reloads. This usually happens the first three or four times I try to enter My Documents, so that I can get around it by retrying until it stops. However, it's not that rare for the first error message to be followed by this:

You chose to end the nonresponsive program Windows Explorer
szAppName: explorer.exe szAppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 szModName: hungapp szModVer: 0.0.0.0 offset: 00000000

followed by a Dr Watson Post Mortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I've actually had this problem for quite a long time now and just recently I started getting this:

Windows DEP (data execution prevention) has closed the program Windows Explorer.exe

I have no idea what's going on here. I have run various scans (Avira, Malware Bytes, Windows Defender, Ad Aware) but they found nothing. Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what it might be?

I would be very grateful for any help or insight.

Look in the Event Viewer and see what errors are showing up at the times that this is happening.

Start> right click on My Computer> Manage> Event Viewer.

On the right side of the page you will see the options Applications, Security, and Systems, double click on Systems. There are eight columns on this page, the three that you will want are Type, Date, Time, and Event.

The errors will appear in the Type column, they are red dots with a white X inside of them.

Warnings will appear as a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside.

When you see an error, double click on it and see what the description is.

Please post the error code/s found in the Event column and the descriptions back in this topic.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Try running chkdsk /r.

Start> Run and type in chkdsk /r (please notice the space between the k and the/) and then click on OK.

A black page with white printing will appear, type in Y, and click on Enter key.

Chkdsk will run when the computer restarts.
