I have three accounts on my system. First account has administrator rights for loading software, second and third do not have rights to load software. My system is running very slowly, I was running Zone Alarm firewall with McAfee anti-virus, and just removed Zone Alarm firewall and enabled McAfee firewall, ran a full scan and mcAfee dectected PCRVIEWER. A post to this forum displays the same Trojan with corrective action, but I was not such if it would be applicable to me. On the Admin account I have Spybot Search and Destroy, Lavasoft Ad Ware.

Thank you for your time and effort,
Bill

Hello Bill,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from one of these places:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Ant...ware_d5756.html
http://www.besttechie.net/mbam/mbam-setup.exe

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Please do this:
1. Download HijackThis™ here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/th.../hijackthis.php

2. Click 'Do a System Scan and Save log'.
The HJT log will open in notepad.

Thanks,
tea
Please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you.
Every little bit helps! :)
You can even use your credit card! Thank you!

Hello there,

You're welcome. :thumbup2:

Nothing bad there to see.

Does McAfee give the path? Let's see if it's just in a restore point :

Click Start Menu > Run > type (or copy and paste)

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it ( something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Next goto Start Menu > Run > type

cleanmgr

Click OK, Disk Cleanup will open and start calculating the amount of space that can be freed, Once thats finished it will open the Disk Cleanup options screen, click the More Options tab then click Clean up on the system restore area and choose Yes at the confirmation window which will remove all the restore points except the one we just created.

To close Disk Cleanup and remove the Temporary Internet Files detected in the initial scan click OK then choose Yes on the confirmation window.

Now tell me if McAfee says anything, and also please let me know how the computer is running. :)

Thanks,
tea

Prior to reading your first e-mail, I turned off the Windows restore point…not the best move on my part and apologize for not sitting on my hands…should I turn them on? I did create restore points with Spybot Search and Destroy; will those restore points work, or do they co inside with Windows?

For the path my remembrance is: C:\SDFIX\
I did not “see” the file, possibly hidden, or nor did a search display the file. I did see a PRCVIEWER entry in the Registry tho.

My McAfee virus definitions updated this morning and I ran a full scan at 10 and again this evening, the results were: (1st count 10am, 2nd count 9 pm scan)
Total detections: 0-0 Registry Keys Scanned: 146545-194237
Processes Scanned: 40-41 Registry Keys Detected: 0-0
Processes Detected: 0-0 Cookies Scanned: 105-110
Files Scanned: 66815-65002 Cookies Detected: 0-0
Files Detected: 0-0 Last Scan: 2/28/2009 10:12:09 AM
9:39:59 pm
Current Spybot definitions did not detect anything.

I ran cleanmgr as instructed; however comma…

Hi there,

I can see your reply got cut off, but I saw enough to know what the problem is. :thumbup2: SDFix was run on your system at some point. It uses a file called Process.exe, and what McAfee is reporting is another name for that file. In other words, a false positive. :step1: If you delete SDFix, then the warning will go away. :step5:

Yes, please do turn System Restore back on! Keep in mind that when you turn it off all prior restore points are lost. If something happens and you need to go back....well, there you are with nothing to go to. :step4: Better a dirty restore point than none at all.

If you'll delete SDFix, empty your Recycle Bin and reboot your computer, then retrace my instructions above I think you'll come out with a clean scan. :)

Please let me know how you come out. :)

Regards,
tea

Hello Tea,

To answer your question, "how is the computer running"? The machines response time appears "ok".

My following comment is outside my orginal request...

The following scenario occurred prior to the PRCVIEWER notification.

When my default web page opens\loads, is it "normal" for the page back\forward arrows to be "grayed-out", as if the web page is not active? When I attempt to log onto the web site, I received an error and instructed to attempt to log in again.
However, if I click on the Favorite star icon and select the default web page the page back (left facing) arrow is blue and I can log on without incident.

Yes. Mine are too. :) How can you go backwards if you haven't gone forward yet. :thumbup2:

When I attempt to log onto the web site, I received an error and instructed to attempt to log in again.

What web site? This one....Bleeping Computer? Can you please tell me the error you get?

However, if I click on the Favorite star icon and select the default web page the page back (left facing) arrow is blue and I can log on without incident.

Yes, makes sense that you can see the back button. :step4: You were somewhere when you clicked on your Favorites, so to go back one when you click would be to go back to the page you were on when you clicked your Favorites.

Teacup...you are my awakening...if I have not traveled, I have not been, until I venture, I know not which path to embark. Go forward to the unknown, or retreat to the comfort of the knowing past. My forward travels.....ok, sorry, your comments made me think, or wonder too much . So much for my philosophy.

Hello Bill,

Well I wasn't trying to be philosophical, I promise. :thumbup2:

Those logs look good, but for a little clutter, and a couple of things to fix to add a tiny bit of speed to your boot time. :step4:

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {327C2873-E90D-4c37-AA9D-10AC9BABA46C} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\nwiz.exe" /install
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O23 - Service: McAfee Application Installer Cleanup (0007231234326926) (0007231234326926mcinstcleanup) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\000723~1.EXE (file missing)

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer.

Is McAfee still complaining? It should not be. :step1:

EDIT: There is nothing attached? :) What site?

tea
