Frmwrk32 installed when a video was downloaded by my daughter. The result was that it took over my desktop, task manager and other controls. I have resolved some of the problems but the internet is loading very slow and when click out a link after doing a search in google sometimes you as redirected to a different site. The following is what I have done so far and a HJT log file. Thank you for any help.

So first, I deleted the following using HJT.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Framework Windows] frmwrk32.exe

Then I deleted these files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\frmwrk32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll64.exe

Also click on RUN, in the START menu
type regedit
search for all these entries and delete them
as you can see, they stop you from running task bar and changing wall paper.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Activ eDesktop] NoChangingWallpaper = 0x00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explo rer]
NoSetActiveDesktop = 0x00000001
NoActiveDesktopChanges = 0x00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
Framework Windows = "frmwrk32.exe"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\General]
Wallpaper = "%System%\ahtn.htm"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor er]
NoSetActiveDesktop = 0x00000001
NoActiveDesktopChanges = 0x00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Active Desktop] NoChangingWallpaper = 0x00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
DisableTaskMgr = 0x00000001

Once I did this, I was able to download and run malwarebytes in Safe Mode. I deleted the bad files found.

Here is the HJT log

Howdy, my name is Hoov, and I will be helping you with your dilemma. Appologies for taking so long in getting to you and your problem.

Please make sure you watch this thread for responses. If you click the options tab at the top of your first post, you can select to track this thread.

Here is what I am asking you to do during the repair of your computer

*Tell me everything that you have done, if anything, to try and fix this problem.

*Please only use 1 forum to help clear up your problem. Posting on more than 1 and following instructions from more than 1 forum will cause those helping you to pull out thier hair.

*Follow my instructions - If you can't for some reason, or if you don't understand something, please tell me. If you deviate from my instructions, tell me, it may make a difference on where we go. Don't install anything, even other programs that have nothing to do with security or malware, it could cause things to change, and I would never know it.

*Have faith. I will do all I can to get your computer working, and if I can't - someone else here will know something else to try.

*Stick with me to the end. My aim is to fix your problems, and give you the tools and knowledge to keep this from happening again.

Now onto trying to fix your computer. I am looking over your log, and I will be back in a bit with some instructions.

If I am helping you and you don't hear from me for 24Hrs, send me a PM Please!

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
  • Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Alternatively, you can update through MBAM's interface from a clean computer, copy the definitions (rules.ref) located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from that system to a usb stick or CD and then copy it to the infected machine.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.

Run comboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Also make sure you close all your browsers just before the instructions tell you to start the scanner.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

I am sorry to have left you hanging this weekend. I am having a cat5e cable problem. I have a real ugly fix right now so I can do some catch up and let people know I didn't abandon them intentionally. I won't be able to post again until March 17 at about 5PM East Coast USA time (UCT -4).

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Try resetting IE,

1. In Internet Explorer 7, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
2. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
3. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
4. When Internet Explorer 7 finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK two times.
5. Close Internet Explorer 7. The changes take effect the next time that you open Internet Explorer 7.

The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature restores the following items to their default settings:

* Home pages
* Search scopes
* Browsing history
* Form data
* Passwords
* Appearance settings
* Toolbars
* ActiveX controls

Additionally, the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature disables all add-ins. However, it does not remove the add-ins.

Let me know what happens.

This computer is actually at my place of business so I was not here most of the weekend. Followed your instructions for IE it didn't help. I do use mozilla as my browser. The same thing happens in IE. Hope you get your problem fixed.

Download WinSockFix from here or here.

Backing up the Registry

1. Double click on WinsockXPFix.exe to open.
2. On the Winsock and TCP Repair Utility screen, click "ReG-Backup"
3. On the ERDNT Welcome screen, click "OK".
4. On the Backup to: screen, click "OK".
5. On the Folder does not exist question screen click "Yes".
6. You will see a status screen as your registry is being backed up.
7. On the Registry backup is complete! screen, click "OK" and you will go back to the main window.

Resetting the Winsock Stack

1. On the Winsock and TCP Repair Utility screen, click "Fix".
2. On the Apply the VB_Winsock fix? screen click "Yes".
3. The screen will display a status message "repair completed please reboot."
4. On the Repair Completed screen click "OK" to reboot your computer.
5. If your computer was not using DHCP, you will need to reconfigure TCP/IP.
6. You should have connectivity restored.

Make a system restore point, and skip the backup done thru winsockxpfix.

Create a System Restore Point
Go to all programs, then to accessories, then to system tools, then to system restore. Check the box for create restore point (not select a restore point), then click next and follow the instructions.

Proceed with the Winsock instructions.
