Referred here from: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/200530/have-a-virus-malware-trojan-or-something-i-cannot-get-rid-of/ ~ OB

I have been receiving help for about 2 weeks from "Computer Masochist" AKA garmanma. ~ OB on this mybleepingcomputer.com site and he told me to submit my HJT Log below:

Brief description of your problem: At first I had Antivir, Ad-Aware and ran a dozen times. They would find things, say they have taken care of the virus etc. and then the same problems exist on reboot. The symptoms were:
1. I cannot get to any websites with potential software downloads or things to help me fix my issues, like this site or geekstogo or PCTOOLs. I can get to Yahoo and Google but any important site needed to fight this thing, I cannot get to. I get a pop-up and it takes me to shopzilla or other random silly sites.
2. By chance I have malwarebytes and a couple other programs like spybot but when I try to run or install any of them either by file or CD - I see the exe come up in my task mgr but they will not load or execute.

I seem to be fine now cause mybleeping computer.com had me add and helped me run these anti-malware tools: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, ATF-Cleaner.exe, SUPERAntiSpyware Free. After doing all this, "Computer Masochist" asked me to post this log:

Hi,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer. I'm m0le and I will be helping you with your log. :thumbup2:

We apologise for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.
  • Please avoid changing anything on your computer (ie, downloading software) or taking unsupervised steps to remove any malware as this can make helping you much more difficult.
  • Please also try and reply regularly as long waits between instructions can make the fix much more difficult. I will bump the topic after 2 days without a reply and will close it on the third day.
So give me some time to go through your log and, in the meantime, let me know if you are there

If you have already solved the issues or no longer need my help then let me know that.

The forum is busy and we need to have replies as soon as possible. If I haven't had a reply after 2 days I will bump the topic and if you do not reply by the following day then I will close the topic.

Thanks.

Hi vtkempi,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer. My name is m0le and I will be helping you with your log.

There are some things that require attention and I will go over these step by step. If you are unsure of anything I am saying then don't continue, just post a query and I will get you back on track.

Please avoid changing anything on your computer (ie, downloading software) or taking unsupervised steps to remove any malware as this can make helping you much more difficult.

:step5: The log shows that you have been using so called peer-to-peer or file-sharing programmes (in your case uTorrent and Limewire). These programmes allow to share files between users as the name(s) suggest. In today's world the cyber crime has come a long way and any means is used to infect personal computers to make use of their stored data or machine power for further propagation of their malware files. A popular means is the use of file-sharing tools as a tremendous amount of prospective victims can be reached through it.

It is therefore possible to be infected by downloading manipulated files via peer-to-peer tools and thus suggested to be used with intense care. Some further readings on this subject, along the included links, are as follows: "File-Sharing, otherwise known as Peer To Peer" and "Risks of File-Sharing Technology."

It is also important to note that sharing entertainment files and proprietary software infringes the copyright laws in many countries over the world and you are putting yourself at risk of being indicted through organisations watching over the rights of the authors of such files (i.e. the RIAA for music files, or the MPAA for movie files in the USA) or the authors of the files themselves.

Naturally there are also legal ways to use these services, such as downloading Linux distributions or office suites such as "Open Office."

:step4: You have a two programs installed which are not recommended and we need to remove.

Click "start" on the taskbar and then click on the "Control Panel" icon.
Please doubleclick the "Add or Remove Programs" icon
A list of programs installed will be "populated" this may take a bit of time.
If they exist, uninstall the following by clicking on the following entries and selecting "remove":

Super Winspy v3.21
My.Freeze.com Toolbar with NetAssistant

Additional instructions can be found here if needed.

:) Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Go to Jotti

When the jotti page has finished loading, click the Browse button and navigate to the following file and click Submit.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cidaemon.exe

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at VirusTotal

:step1: Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

:) Then post a fresh DDS log.

To recap:

  • The uninstallation of the two programs
  • The Jotti scan
  • The Malwarebytes Anti-malware (MBAM) log
  • The DDS log
Thanks :thumbup2:

Hi vtkempi,

DDS is the program that you first ran. After you have run MBAM just click the dds.scr icon which you installed on your desktop and let DDS do a second scan.

Just cut and paste any log I ask for straight into your reply as you did with the Jotti scan :thumbup2:
