Older Compaq Presario 900AP, Windows XP, Service Pack 3.

CD R/W DVR R will only read some older Windows Program discs. Will not read nor write any others. Does not even see any others.

I am not a novoce. I know device drivers, device manager, enabla/disable/ update drivers, BIOS, etc. I have done it all.

I assume not bad hardware as it will read some Windows Program CD's.

Will also not boot from Windows XP Upgrade (as it does not see the CD) for a reinstal/repair.

You can always try the obvious...uninstall/reinstall, upper and lower filters, lens cleaner...but I'd be making plans for a replacement

You may want to visit http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...lang=pt#no_read and scroll down to Troubleshooting the DVD/CD-ROM section.
