I know there are a lot of these threads, but I didn't seem to see anything that would help...maybe I'm too lazy xD.

I had to format/reinstall recently and my sound stopped working. I seem to have misplaced my box of driver CDs, so I went and bought a cheapo sound card and installed that. My speakers are definitely in working condition, and I used the windows help and support troubleshooter, none of the "Oh yeah, duh" solutions it covered worked.

I notice that when I did the reinstall I am missing some of the basic things I had before...calculator, wordpad, the volume control. Could this be related in any way?

And as for the onboard sound card, the motherboard is an ASUS M2A-VM. I tried looking for sound drivers, and I am going to try to find the overall install program, I'm sure I'm missing something from there. It just doesn't make sense that the new sound card won't work either.

Am I missing something really obvious?

EDIT:
0.o
Okay, seriously, wtf... I did absolutely nothing and it fixed itself. I still need to find my motherboard setup disc, but at least this is done. -_- Sorry guys, I keep making threads that fix themselves, BC must be magic.
