This is my first time trying this. I am trying to fix my mother-in-laws computer. They had no antivirus software/spyware/adaware programs previous to the problems. The screen gets 100's of popups starting with Aurora popup window. I intially ran Spyware Doctor, Spybot S&D, Adaware Se, and Norton.

What I have narrowed it down to is the following, and I cant get rid of it:

Viruses found: Trojan.Dropper, Trojan.AlwayUp, and W32.Sasser.worm
Spyware cant get rid of: Transponder.Bolger

These are the main issues I have found anyways. I figured I would try the HiJack this since that is where a few webpages led me. Any help is appreciated. The following is my LOG file:

Welcome Perk76 to Bleeping Computer.

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

You are running HijackThis from its zipped archive; please create a new folder for it and unzip the program into it. It is very important you do this before anything else!

***

Disable Spyware Doctor for the duration of this fix. It will get in the way of cleaning.

***

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

***

Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

***

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?dow...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

***

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
Enigma Software Adorons Easy Security
SpySpotter
Weather Bug
MyWebSearch
SurfEnhance
Windows AFA Internet Enhancement

Press ‘delete this entry’.
Close HijackThis

***

Download CWShredder, update it. Then open the program and click ‘fix’.

***

Download Stinger Save it to your desktop
Doubleclick s-t-i-n-g-e-r.exe
Make sure it scans your entire disk
Press 'Scan Now'
Stinger will fix whatever it can find.

***

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

***

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

***

Still in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

Select "Delete on Reboot".

Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\APCUPS34.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\uumppz.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system\bsfga.exe
c:\windows\system32\lmqmxrm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Searchx.htm
C:\WINDOWS\whgzyt.exe
C:\Program Files\Pvex\Oixzmpf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\jfpitc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nmexeud.exe
C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\newache.exe
C:\Program Files\sf\sf.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\fmom\fmomm.exe

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
Let the system reboot to safe mode again.

***

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

***

Next please run HijackThis.
Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following (some may already be gone, due to the previously taken steps), making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Weldone, as you can see a lot was cleaned already. But there seems to be more.

Please download FindQoologic from here:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.ph...=post&id=134981
Save it to the desktop and run Find-Qoologic2.bat. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here for me to see.

Please disable SpySubtract and Ewidoguard for the duration of the advise.

Download CleanUp!.
If that doesn’t work, use this link.
Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-use-cleanup/

Don't use it yet.

***

Run Killbox, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot.
Paste this file:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\rrpi.exe
into the full path of file to delete box.
Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
Let the system reboot.

***

Please run Notepad and paste the following text into a new file:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\mmtxxyxm]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{977a2942-3fc9-4bd6-aa5b-6791ff69c24e}]

Save the file to the desktop as fix.reg and make sure the "Save as Type" field says "All Files". Then please go to the desktop and double-click on fix.reg, and click Yes to merge it with the registry.

***
Reboot the computer to safe mode.

***

Open HijackThis.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe 1

O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe (HKCU)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

***

Open Windows Explorer.
See if this folder is still there:
C:\Program Files\AWS\

***

Find and doubleclick the file cleanup.

Go to option
Select ‘custom’
Put a check to:* Cookies
* Prefetch
* Temp
* All users.
Press 'cleanup!'

Once it's done, press Close.
Let the system reboot.

***

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

***

Rescan using Ewido. Safe the log and post it here in your topic.

Also, let me know how things are now.

Seems like everything is in order. Didnt allow me to say No to the pending operations prompt. It was just an ok. Then I had to reboot it manually. I wondered if it worked ok. I appreciate your help very much. I dont fully understand what those logs represent, and without your help, wouldnt have been able to get my inlaws cpu running again.

You did just great.
Be sure to defragment the disk if cleanup! removed a lot. It will improve performance even more.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware, Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
