On my laptop, which is running XP SP3, every time I try to shutdown or restart, it doesn't go to the Windows logo, it just gets stuck at my wallpaper. I looked in my device manager, and found that my graphics card driver was installed twice. I have Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family, and it shows up twice under display adapters. The problem is, if I uninstall one of them, it just comes back. I think this is the main reason behind my shutting down problems. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

You might look in the Task Manager to see what is running at the time you are trying to shut down, it could be a scheduled event. You can also look in the the control panel under Scheduled Tasks to see if you have anything scheduled to run.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

The task manager closes when i try to shut down so I don't know what processes are still running. I don't have anything under schedulued tasks. I'm pretty sure my problem is with my dual monitor display, which I don't even need, so I'm wondering how to turn that off.

EDIT: I cannot find an option to turn it off in the BIOS. I can turn off my computer in safe mode, which means it may be a process hindering the shutdown, but I don't know what.

I've found that reinstalling the video driver sometimes solves problems like this.
