Hello all,

I got a virus on my computer today that I am trying to get removed w/o completely reinstalling.

The symptoms:
Can connect to my wireless router but can not connnect to any websites. I am running a dual boot system w/ Ubuntu and can connect to the net on my wireless router from that OS.
I can launch Norton AV in Safe Mode but not in Normal Mode
Norton AV does not detect a virus
I can not launch Spybot in normal mode nor safe mode
When I double Click C: under explorer it gives me an error message that says "S-0-9-34-100015204-100006087-100008312-4013.com has encountered a problem..."
I can access C: if I open my documents and then delete the rest of the path besides the C:\
I have already taken one action with HJT. the line was "R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local" and i removed it

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Here is the HJT file:

Did a Malware Scan using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Of course I wasn't able to get the latest definitions because I can't connect to the net on that box. Here is the Malware report and then after that is the HijackThis report. After running the Malware scan and deleting the 17 items it found. I was able to reboot and connect to the net again. It allowed me to load NAV now so I am going to update and scan. Still want to make sure I got everything so please let me know if there is something else I need to do.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

R,
K
The only easy day was yesterday.

thank you for responding. I understand you guys are busy and appreciate the help. Symptoms, actions taken and results are listed above. Since then, I have not seen any new virus warnings. The computer is moving very slowly. slowly meaning applications taking a long time to load. Windows taking a long time to load. Web pages taking a long time to load.

Hello, welcome to SpywareHammer.

I go by Hoov, and I will be helping you with your problem. I must ask you to do a few things for me.

First, tell me everything that you have done, if anything, to try and fix this problem.

Second, please only use 1 forum to help clear up your problem. Posting on more than 1 and following instructions from more than 1 forum will cause those helping you to pull out thier hair.

Third, follow my instructions - If you can't for some reason, or if you don't understand something, please tell me. If you deviate from my instructions, tell me, it may make a difference on where we go.

Fourth, Have faith. I will do all I can to get your computer working, and if I can't - someone else here will know something else to try.

Now onto trying to fix your computer.

First, please run ccleaner again to get rid of the sludge. Also run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and update it, and then run a full scan instead of a quick scan. Also when combofix is running it will want to reboot. While it is rebooting, I need you to reset your router using the reset button or the reset utility on the router. A Power down isn't good enough in this case. Make sure you know how to set it up again after. Also make sure that you replace the default password with a good strong password.

Run comboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Also make sure you close all your browsers just before the instructions tell you to start the scanner.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Hello Hoov.

Thank you for your help. No other steps have been taken then those listed above. The requested DDS file being the last action. I have ran Norton Antivirus full system scans and have found nothing. I have ran Spybot a few times cleaning out junk. I am able to connect to the internet and my C: drive now. Trying to connect to my external USB drive still gives me an error when I double click on the icon in My Computer.

02/21

Since the last post, I have ran CCleaner and cleaned out all the junk. I then rand DDS.SCR, here are the files:

Go ahead and run the combofix as instructed. Also is there anything else you can think of the computer started doing just before this started? Even something small may give me a clue. Or something happening now that seems off?

Sorry,
I should have put in there that I was running the programs you instructed as I was posting the message. I will post the log as it completes.

Other then that, I can not think of anything else it has been doing wrong. I didn't copy this line from the file below:

Did a Malware Scan using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Of course I wasn't able to get the latest definitions because I can't connect to the net on that box. Here is the Malware report and then after that is the HijackThis report. After running the Malware scan and deleting the 17 items it found. I was able to reboot and connect to the net again. It allowed me to load NAV now so I am going to update and scan. Still want to make sure I got everything so please let me know if there is something else I need to do.

Try to connect wirelessly, and after it has failed for a bit, I need you to go to the administration tools in XP. They are in the Control Panel. Open the Admin tools, then open the event viewer. Over on the left hand side and click on System. Then up at the top click on Action and then click on Save Events As, type in system as the file name, make sure file type EVT is selected, and then navigate so it will save the file to your desktop, then click save. Over on the left hand side and click on Application. Then up at the top click on Action and then click on Save Events As, type in application as the file name, make sure file type EVT is selected, and then navigate so it will save the file to your desktop, then click save. Zip them both up into a single zip file, post them back here in your next reply as attachments.

Well I was not expecting that. If your connection is working, then I don't need to look at those event viewer files just yet. Honestly I was expecting it to fail again.

Can you post the last Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and NAV log up please? Also check your windows explorer problem and see if it is still there.
