Are these files anything to worry about? There haven't been any trojan warning pop-ups on my computer to raise any alarms lately but just tonight I was running a Superantispyware regular maintenance scan and this showed up in the first log:

Trojan.Agent/Gen-FSG
C:\MY DOWNLOADS\MAGIC DVD COPIER\KEYGEN\KEYGEN.EXE

I quarantined it, ran another scan and then THIS showed up:

Trojan.Dropper/Gen-FSG
C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00001127.EXE

I quarantined that file, ran another scan and now everything is clean. What exactly are these files and where could they have come from if they weren't detected by any of my antivirus/antispyware software?

Trojan-Dropper.Gen

A Keygen is a program which is used to illegally bypass copy protection on games and commercial software by generating a random serial number, or "cd key", that matches the software it is intended to be used with.

The practice of using cracking tools, keygens, warez or any pirated software is not only considered illegal activity but it is a serious security risk.

If you use those kind of programs, be forewarned that some of the worst types of malware infections can be contracted and spread by visiting crack, keygen, warez and other pirated software sites. In many cases, these sites are infested with a smörgåsbord of malware. Those who attempt to get software for free can end up with a computer system so badly damaged that recovery is not possible and it cannot be repaired. When that happens there is nothing you can do besides reformatting and reinstalling the OS.

No single product is 100% foolproof and can detect and remove all threats at any given time. The security community is in a constant state of change as new infections appear. Each vendor has its own definition of what constitutes malware and scanning your computer using different criteria will yield different results. The fact that each program has its own definition files means that some malware may be picked up by one that could be missed by another. Thus, a multi-layered defense using several anti-spyware products (including an effective firewall) to supplement your anti-virus combined with common sense and safe surfing habits provides the most complete protection.

The thing is, I don't have any of these kinds of programs, and I haven't even downloaded any new software in months, so I have no idea where they could have come from. I don't even know what Magic DVD Key is! At least they're gone now!
