The following information relates to Windows OS users with the Firefox browser looking for the less common .SID image file extension although it may also be helpful for those using different operating systems and browsers.
I am grateful to Trax for his help in his response to my original query.
Type SID files into Google, enter and select, from the many offerings, SID File Extension – Open SID files on www.fileinfo.net/extension/SID. This opens the Fileinfo.net page .SID File Extension. There are 3 sections, the first section is for image files for both Mac and Windows operating systems, the second section is for Commodore 64 music files and the third section for SID audio files.
The information given for section 1 is as follows:
File Type: MrSID Image
Category: Image files. (this link brings up a list of the less common image file extensions)
File Description: Compressed image format that uses Multi-resolution Seamless Image Database (MrSID) compression; developed by LizardTech for compressing large images.
Programs that open SID files: Select either a Mac OS browser or a Windows OS browser here.
The ? File Info.net page opens with a list of browsers. Select your browser from the list. I selected Firefox and the Mozilla Europe homepage opened.
At the Add-ons tab at the top, select Plugins from the drop down menu. The SID plug-in is not listed here, but scrolling to the bottom of the page brings up the option of selecting PluginDoc to open a new Mozilla Firefox page – (mozdev.org). Under Documentation select Microsoft Windows. Mozilla Plugin Support on Microsoft Windows opens. The SID plug-in is not listed so at the top of this page, next to Most Popular click on A-Z. This opens another page with three columns of plug-ins. Look for “Lizard Express View” in the third column – Information note: “This plugin was previously known as MrSID plugin.” Click on the download button and install.
I hope this is of help.
