Hi,

I have this problem for few months. Computer starts typing ZZZZZ (tens of Z's) or / (forward slash) or \ (backward slash). And it throws a drop down menu (the menu we get when we hit right button).
I have Norton Internet Security 2009 and also I have run 5-10 different virus removal tools; without success.

Sometimes it takes several minutes just to type a sentence.

Can you please help?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Hi,

My computer types Z or / or \ by itself. For example if I am trying to type say "Hello" it actually becomes "Hezllz/o" or something like that.. Or the page down is pressed by itself continously.

When I was trying to save the DDS files the computer was typing Z or / or \. So, if you find any extra z or / or \ characters in the log please neglect them.

DDS log is attached too.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Thanks for your help.

Hello, MarkNC
This does not sound like a malware problem. Have you tried using another keyboard?

Hi,

1. I think it is a malware, I am not sure. The computer seems to be working fine, sometimes for several days. Suddenly the cursor starts flickering and the system hangs for 20-40 seconds. After that it starts typing the odd characters (it is only Z, /, \). It also keeps down the "up arrow" and page down keys.
Sometimes it takes several minutes to type a single sentence.

Sometimes it types tens of z (like - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) or tens of \.

2. I use a Laptop. Is there anyway to find out whether this is a problem with the keyboard? Is there any tool I can run to find out this?

3. Is it possible to change just the keyboard for the Laptop?

Thanks for your help and quick response.

Hello, MarkNC

That sounds like no malware I've ever heard of.

2. I use a Laptop. Is there anyway to find out whether this is a problem with the keyboard? Is there any tool I can run to find out this?

Only way to find out is to try another one.

3. Is it possible to change just the keyboard for the Laptop?

Depending on the model, how old it is, how popular it is/was, yes it may be possible to do so.
