I installed a new cdrw/dvd on my friends computer after she said her old one was broke because it wasn't reading cd's (her son told her this) But, same problem in that the drive shows in my computer but there's 0bytes and a blank page when I double click drive icon. Why is this. It makes life really hard work when the only cd drive won't read. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance. Running xp pro sp3. Dell dimension 3100 desktop.

Try uninstalling the IDE driver, reboot the computer and let the OS reinstall it on reboot. Go Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager button. Click the plus sign to the left of the entry IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Right-click on the entry Secondary IDE channel and select Uninstall. Close out of all the windows. Reboot.
