Already tried this, multiple times. Did everything in safe mode. Ran a full EWIDO scan. Tried 4 different spyware programs. Its very persistent.

Hi Grimler,

It seems VCMnet is gone, for now anyway. Still getting popups though. Most happen only when im plugged into the network. If I unplug, there is still one that appears though.

My majoy popup problems seems to take a while to kick in. After 15-20 mins, then they just start getting out of hand. Its always about the same amount of time. I get that little one every minute or so, but after about 15 minutes the main ones just start popping up like crazy.

You uninstalled Windows AFA Internet Enhancement in add/remove programs?

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

O2 - BHO: SDWin32 Class - {2154F9CA-15AD-40D7-98E4-908F8416024A} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\dxjxj.dll
O2 - BHO: adlog Class - {22B9A67D-E689-44B6-B775-0E8FE84B4F9B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhavygd.dll
O23 - Service: hcioyat - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hcioyat.exe

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\dxjxj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhavygd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hcioyat.exe

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

AFA Internet Enhancement doesnt come up. Ive checked for it multiple times. For some odd reason VCMnet11.exe keeps coming back to my windows folder. It may not be causing any problems anymore though. I did everything else you said and im popup-less, as of the last 10 minutes since my reboot, which is a 1st in about a week. Thanks!

Question - In that windows/system32 folder, there is ALOT of files named wwgffs.dll and fdhfh.exe. Those names are just examples. There is alot with crazy names like that - most of which are from this year. My popup problems started about a week or so ago, and alot of these files are dated around then. The only software ive installed this year was all this popup software.

Are these safe to remove or should I just not mess with it for now. Im not really having any bad popup problems anymore so I guess I should probably just leave them be.

Thanks so much for your help. Keep up the good fight against these scumbags.

Tim

Nevermind. I spoke too soon. Im getting hammered here. Im starting to think there is just no way to remove VCMnet. Ive followed all instruction to unintall it. They alaways say to remove that program from add/remove programs and its enver there. And they say to remove some n.dll which also doesnt exist. I always remove the EXE and it always comes back. Is a reformat needed to fix this?

Dont worry. Its not hard to remove.

Download the attached bat file to your c:\ folder. Then double-click on the c:\polrun.bat and post the resulting log as a reply.

Hi. Please download and install the program Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section.

Under the run key you will see a random value name (in the right section of the window). Right click on that value and select delete.

Exit registrar lite.

Fix these two entries in hjt, still in safe mode:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [guarnset] C:\WINDOWS\system32\guarnset.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe] C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe

Then delete

C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\guarnset.exe

Reboot and post a new log

Your log is clean! Great job!

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

or

Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Next,

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Finally, and definitely the MOST IMPORTANT step, click on the following tutorial and follow each step listed there:

Simple and easy ways to keep your computer safe and secure on the Internet

Glad I was able to help and if there any other problems related to your computer please feel free to post them in the appropriate forum. Though we help people with spyware and viruses here at BC, we also help people with other computer problems! Do not forget to tell your friends about us!
