Hi,
i recently formatted my laptop back to its original factory settings and tried to do windows update to bring it back to date.
however, the many times i tried, it will always redirect to Google.com.

Read about the conficker worm and tried to download the malicious software, but any downloads from Microsoft.com will be met by a invalid download.
Then i chanced upon this website and i noticed there are similar folks with the same problem, so i tried to follow, however i realised that the CFS script required would be a customised one, so i am hoping that i can receive some help from the pros here.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

R,
K

Hi j3r0m3

It seems you have run ComboFix by yourself which is never recommended. Please look for ComboFix.txt or ComboFixX.txt (where X is number) file that is created 13.2.2009 and post back its contents, please.

Smart Alec, i know...

Anyway, as requested.

Hi

I noticed signs of flash infection there. So, yes, if you have used same removable usb drive with both computers then it's possible.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
c:\documents and settings\Jerome\vss632.exe

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusDisableNotify"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\SymantecAntiVirus]
"DisableMonitoring"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\SymantecFirewall]
"DisableMonitoring"=-

Save this as
CFScript

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 12.
  • Click the
    Download

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All

Please run an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner as instructed in the screenshot here. If you get a message that latest Java must be installed "enable" the Java add-ons in IE7. Do that using "manage add-ons" from the IE7 toolbar.

Post back its report, a fresh dds.txt log and above mentioned ComboFix resultant log.

Hi again :thumbup2:

If you think your other puter has got infected then you may open a new topic for it. We deal only one system in one topic.

Uninstall all Java versions below Java 6 Update 12

Please see if you can make ESET online scanner work.

* Go here to run an online scanner from ESET.
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is UNchecked and the option Scan unwanted applications is checkmarked.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic, along with a new dds.txt log.

I tried to run ESET, but no cigar....

The Active X just prompts me for installation and then nothing happens.

Hi again,

Good. Looks like found items are either tracking cookies or already quarantined objects (=non harmful).

Please post a fresh dds.txt log and let me know how's the system running.

Hi

Please download GooredFix and save it to your Desktop. Double-click Goored.exe to run it. Select 1. Find Goored (no fix) by typing 1 and pressing Enter. A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredLog.txt). Note: Do not run Option #2 yet.

Download GMER and save it your desktop:
  • Extract it to your desktop and double-click GMER.exe
  • Click rootkit-tab and then scan.
  • Don't check
    Show All
    box while scanning in progress!
  • When scanning is ready, click Copy.
  • This copies log to clipboard
  • Post log in your reply.
