Yep, you guessed it ... I have two computers ... and this would be the second one. Again, I ran Malwarebytes and the following came up:

Fake.dropped.malware
Trojan.Agent
Trojan.Vundo
Worm.Viking

All very bad sounding ... which again led me to think :thumbup2: what else is on this computer that is very bad??? So here are the logs and the attachments.

Thanks again for any help you can provide!!!!!

Hello,

This computer is a little different, but still no sign of the original infection you posted about.

Your Java is way out of date, which leaves your computer vulnerable.

Updating Java
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6_u_12.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTHelper] CTHELPER.EXE

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer.

Let me know how MBAM comes out, and if this computer is having problems still. :thumbup2:

Thanks,

This computer is a little different,

Can you help me understand "a little different"? Please let me know, besides the JAVA, if you are seeing something wrong and what I should do to fix it.

I ran MBAM, and the computer came back clean ... YEAH!!!! Do you know how I got these things in the first place. I am very careful about which websites I go to (for both computers you are helping me with), so I don't know how I could have picked these things up .. SCARY!!!! :thumbup2:

Thanks!!!

Hello,

Malware is so sneaky these days. One of the completely legit sites you normally go to could have been infected even. A mistakenly clicked link, just any number of things could have done it. I know recently one of the sites E Bay sellers regularly use was infected and hundreds of their clients were infected as a result.

What I meant by different is there a a few things installed differently on this one.....like there is no sign in this one of the Hotkey Poller that was helping slow your other computer. Nothing bad, and I'm sorry if I worried you. This one is running all right? :thumbup2:

Whew :thumbup2: Thanks for telling me. This one is the home computer, and the other is the laptop. Did you see anything in the logs that might make this run a little faster? I'm, tempted to delete all of the temp stuff I have on here, like:

RegCure
UniBlue Registry booster
CCCleaner
AVG Antispyware

You know, the stuff I never use. What do you think?

Thanks!

RegCure <----definitely go away
UniBlue Registry booster <----definitely go away
CCCleaner <----definitely go away. ATF Cleaner is smaller, safer, and easier
AVG Antispyware <----definitely go away. Doesn't exist any more and is doing you no good anyway.

:thumbup2:

The following are not malware, but fixing them with HijackThis will improve your system's speed. None are necessary at startup, and may be started manually at any time. This is up to you. :step4:

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [RegistryMechanic] C:\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\RegMech.exe /H

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer.

See if all that helps and let me know. :)

Hi!
I didn't notice any real difference. It seems like my hard drive is always wizzing and whirring? Could it be tea timer?
Thanks!!

I doubt Tea Timer is causing it. You quite a few things starting up that I don't think you need. Let's see:

Create a Startup List[/u]
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and past the StartupList from the notepad into your next post
Thanks,
tea

Hi there,

You're welcome. Let's see if we can narrow it down some more :

Same as before, The following are not malware, but fixing them with HijackThis will improve your system's speed. None are necessary at startup, and may be started manually at any time.

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RoxioDragToDisc] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Drag-to-Disc\DrgToDsc.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RoxWatchTray] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\9.0\SharedCOM\RoxWatchTray9.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTHelper] CTHELPER.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTDVDDET] C:\Program Files\Creative\SBAudigy2ZS\DVDAudio\CTDVDDet.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [RegistryMechanic] C:\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\RegMech.exe /H

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer.

I'm curious....what makes you think Tea Timer has something to do with this particular problem? Could you have a look in your Task Manager and see what is running the very most when the hard drive is wizzing and whirring? Besides your browser, of course. :thumbup2:

Hi Tea,
Here are the processes running at 10k or above. Everything else is at 8K or below.

TeaTimer.exe ... 56,136K
vsmon.exe ....... 36,200K
svchost.exe ...... 20,940K
firefox.exe ........ 57,404K
explorer.exe ..... 20,856K

TeaTimer is always at this level. Also, in the system tray, Spybot-SD Resident says I have 128360 processes blacklisted, and 283740 known ratings availalbe. I don't know if that means anything, but I put it here in case you needed the info.

Thanks again!!!
