My HP dv6119us laptop simply won't turn on. I press the power button and the quicklights light up, sometimes the hard drive will briefly run for a second or two, but then it just shuts off again. I unplugged the AC power and battery, pressed the power button a couple time then plugged it back in, but nothing's happening. The last time this happened I just blew out some dust and it worked fine, but that's just not cutting it now.

I don't think there's any internal problems, I recently did a system recovery and everything was working fine. I had kept the laptop on all last night to finish some downloads, put it in standby, and that's when the problem started. The battery is brand new, the light is on when the AC adapter is plugged in, but I'm not sure if this is a power problem or what.

Also, I try to charge the batter but the charging light only stays on for a minute or two. The light where the plug goes in is on, though.

Try removing the hard drive and the CD/DVD player and see if it will remain on
I had a shorted out Hard drive that did this

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
