Need help restoring HiJackThis keys.

In a Malware removal session that continued too late at night (as you will see) I removed and backed up 3 keys (some of which are now known to be critical) with HiJackThis 202. The machine in question now blue screens with stop error c000021a Session manager Init 0xc0000022 (0x00000000 0x00000000). System restore is not an option. I am kicking myself plenty but feel free to use me for an example if you wish. In weak defense, I will say that I believe that I have never seen these keys like this in numerous HJT scans before. Sooo, moving on---

I first tried booting from BartPE (XP SP1 slipstreamed to SP3) to run HJT but it will not run, complaining about MSVBVM60.dll run time error 50003. Is there a way to make HJT run so that I can keep the drive in its original machine and restore the keys?

I now have the drive installed as a slave in a working XP machine. I can run HJT from where it is installed on the now slave drive in this alternate machine. HJT is scans the C: drive as I would expect. (Is there a way to make it scan the drive it is installed on instead of the C: drive??)
I can see my 3 keys that I would like to restore. BUT how can I be sure, or how can I ENSURE that the restore will be to the intended slave drive and not to the C: drive in this test machine.

I am also interested to know if HJT calls Regedit to do this export/import stuff or if it is done in some other way. Is there a way for me to move these 3 keys back to the now slave drive registry manually with reg tools if HJT will restore only to the C: drive? If necessary, I could go back to the original machine with BartPE or Ubuntu or Knoppix.

I believe had it fully patched from WindowsUpdate and was esentially clean before this boner.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
