First of all, the details are here.

According to a leaked document, customers acquiring Vista PCs will be given the opportunity of inexpensive and free upgrades to Windows 7, as long as they will buy the machines with Vista and not wait for the launch of Windows 7. The latest documentation leaked for the program reveals an Eligibility Period spanning from July 1, 2009 through January 31, 2010

I doubt it will change, Microsoft is just trying to make sure people keep buying computers during the transition period. Vista has been a public relations disaster.

This has been happening since Windows 95. I bought an HP with WfW 3.11 installed (from Circuit City) - and received an upgrade certificate (which I used) for Windows 95.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Public relations disaster, in the critic's circuit that is. Well admitted: Vista sure did recover big time.

I know for sure the upgrades will be based on the type of Windows Vista that your computer is running. For example, if you are running Windows Vista Home Premium, then you will receive the same type of certificate for Windows 7 Home Premium.

Me, I will stick to buying Windows 7 Ultimate.
