I have a suspicion that i have a virus in my computer, but i havent been able to find/remove it. You guys look very knowledgeable about what is and isn't supposed to show up in the logfile, so i'm hoping somebody can let me know if there is something going on with my comp. (note: i do run windowblinds, though AlienGUIse, so that should be in there somewhere.)

Welcome .Prodigy. to Bleeping Computer.

Please download the latest version of HiJack This. Click here to download the latest version (1.99.1). Please save it in a permanent folder (such as C:\HJT). This is to ensure that backups are saved and accessible in the event you should need it. Follow the instructions below if you are unsure how to save it in a permanent folder:1.) Click on the link to download HiJackThis.exe.
2.) When it pulls up the box (for you to pick a location to save the file), click on the pulldown menu and select "[C:]".
3.) Click on the button to "create new folder" and name the folder HiJackThis
4.) Double click on the folder you just made (to go into the folder) and click "save" on the bottom of the box.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

edit: updated log again, the previous one was taken with some programs running.
note: i do have an AlienGUIse version of windowblinds running at all times, so the log was taken with the program running

Thanks for your reply, I've done as you instructed and removed the three things.
I don't know of anything specifically wrong with my computer, there's just a general sluggishness. I've had this computer for almost 6 months now, and I have been spending a great amount of time on it. In the past week, it's been taking unusually long to start up and shut down, as well as open certain programs (usually large games). Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Norton haven't come up with any results, and I'm reasonably sure it's not a space issue. I'm hoping you guys might possibly be able to find something (hopefully nothing serious) wrong with my computer.

1. Please download LSPFix from here.
2. Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
3. Check the "I know what I'm doing" box.
4. In the "Keep" box you should see one or more instances of dll relating to xfire_lsp_10650.dll
5. Select every instance of xfire_lsp_10650.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
6. When you are done click Finish>>.

Then reboot the computer.

Post back with a fresh log using HijackThis.

the xfire lsp, i believe, goes with xfire (a program i regularly use). are you sure that it's a harmful file?

the xfire lsp, i believe, goes with xfire (a program i regularly use). are you sure that it's a harmful file?

It shouldn't have been where we found it. That's what we fixed.

i ran ad-aware and spybot once again, ad-aware found 2 tracking cookies and spybot came up with nothing. certain programs are still slow loading, but i'm beginning to think that may be the program's fault. everything else is working fine.

Let's cleanup a bit.

Download CleanUp!.
If that doesn’t work, use this link.
Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:

Find and doubleclick the file cleanup.

Go to option
Select ‘custom’
Put a check to:* Cookies
* Prefetch
* Temp
* All users.
Press 'cleanup!'

Once it's done, log off and log on again. This will remove files that were in use during the scan.


If a lot of space was recovered, I recommend you defragment the disk:

The privileges to run scandisk may have been revoked by the system administrator.
Log on using an account with all rights.
To run Scandisk we recommend you follow the recommend steps.

* Double click My Computer
* Highlight a local hard disk drive by clicking on it once.
* Right click the highlighted local drive
* Click properties
* Click the tools tab and click check now to check the drive for errors.
* The computer will need to restart in order to run scandisk in a safe mode.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

    See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

    Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
