The kind folks at the "Hijack This and Virus" forum sent me here.
This computer is running Windows Vista:

Internet Explorer: 7.0.6001.18000
Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium 6.0.6001.1.1252.1.1033.18.1013.215 [GMT -6:00]

I recently was infected with a TDSSserv.sys trojan (see: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic199164.html)
After performing the steps to clean the computer, it now seems to be having trouble installing an important Window Update (KB958215)

I'm not sure what KB958215 is, other than it appears to be a Windows Security Update, and Vista's Windows Update deems it an "important update".
I've attached (uploaded) a segment of the Windows System Event Log which shows the Windows Update failure.

In short, the system event shows:
"Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of setting package KB958215 (Security Update) into Resolved(Resolved) state"

Have you tried the direct download in stead of using Windows Updates?

Try this (it's just a shot in the dark).

Open a command prompt with Administrator privileges.

Type "net stop wuauserv" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Once the service has stopped, open Windows Explorer and delete the contents of the Windows\Software Distribution folder (leave the folder there empty).

Once that's done, go back to the elevated command prompt and type "net start wuauserv" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Reboot and test to see if it helped.

Very interesting event today... This morning, Microsoft pushed the following updates to this machine: KB960715, KB961260, KB890830, and KB915597 and then the machine automatically rebooted. After that, Windows Update now no longer shows KB958215 on the list of Important, Recommended, or Optional updates. Windows Update is now showing that Windows is "Up to Date".

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Maybe this was a glitch in that particular Windows Update that applied to your system. Microsoft may have issued another fix to take care of that - and that may be what has "fixed" your system.

A review of those KB articles may show you what happened.
