Hi,

For the past month or two I have been having what I believe to be virus/malware issues. I noticed it when the PC started running slow, I received numerous warnings in avast (which I told to move to the chest but apparently it didnt). After that, I also noticed a Mirar toolbar. Eventually, my internet connection became inoperable for the most part. I began trying to install some antimalware software but my PC said I needed Admin access (which I have) to install any programs. I also looked for a rollback point but all were deleted.

I currently run SBS&D, SUPERAntiSpyware and AVG (free). I have done numerous scans in all programs. Before, I also had a Spyware/PC Doctor? program installed but saw some unfavorable feedback on so I hope it is completely removed. Initially, quite a few things were found between them and thought most were successfully quarantined. Now, they usually come back clean but occasionally I still notice my PC running slow and odd things will popup. For example, this morning I rebooted it and AVG displayed a message about a Trojan Horse Agent.AFYT for a file I have no idea where it came from - C:\WINDOWS\Video Cleaner Pro Uninstaller.exe. Various things will also be caught in the scans from time to time as well. I just ran the updater for SBS&D and I could not update it because it said some TCPIP.dll? file was locked or something. I'm not sure if this is legit or due to malicious software.

I also noticed some things in a recent hijack this log that makes me think there are still things lurking in my system such as empty entries, ones from 'worldwinner.com' and I still see things from a 'Spyware Doctor' program. My PC is critical to my work so I would greatly appreciate any help to remove any virus/malware from my PC for good. I would be more than happy to provide any information to help in the matter.

Here is my HJT log I just ran...

Hello Shelby500KR,

Posted Image

I still see things from a 'Spyware Doctor'

That's okay. It's legit. :thumbup2:

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with the fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Please also be sure AVG8 is disabled as well, or it may try to block some of the files ComboFix needs to run.

This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Thanks,
tea
Please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you.
Every little bit helps! :)
You can even use your credit card! Thank you!

Hi tea,

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me with this. I think I had the 'Spyware Doctor' software mixed up with a 'SpyHunter' software as the 'bad' software I mentioned in my initial email. I have removed the SpyHunter one as far as I know.

I believe I followed everything as you described. The only part I was unsure about was I may not have disabled the AVG completely right before I ran combofix.exe. I closed the tray icon and thought that would end all scanners. I ran ComboFix and it rebooted my PC on its own. A message came up stating that I needed to disable the AVG scanner so I went in and disabled the scanners manually and saw the red balloon message in my taskbar stating that my computer could be at risk (meaning I successfully disabled them). I did not get that message right before I initially ran ComboFix so I'm not sure if that will impact these results or not. If it will, let me know and I will gladly re-run it all again.

Here is the returned ComboFix log (the HJT log will follow in my next reply):

Yes, it's fine. :thumbup2:

You should notice an improvement in performance....not perfection, but improvement. You had a rootkit along with everything else.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from one of these places:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Ant...ware_d5756.html
http://www.besttechie.net/mbam/mbam-setup.exe

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Thanks,
tea
Please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you.
Every little bit helps! :)
You can even use your credit card! Thank you!

Hi there,

How is it running?

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0573BF9B-9882-49E5-B384-D207D57F9251} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {48A5E83E-2FE8-4B48-8143-E4A89E9A6C37} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4BE7C00F-0878-468D-82D2-412C77BF6212} - (no file)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: stnnuq.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkkIXqqo - C:\WINDOWS\

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files and delete, if still present:

stnnuq.dll
jkkIXqqo
<-----if it's there, it might be an empty folder.

Reboot your computer.

Do you use worldwinner games, or go to the site? Those entries in the log are ActiveX that they use when you play them. We can remove them, if you like. :thumbup2:

Starting to look good as far as I can tell :thumbup2:

After I selected the items and clicked 'Fix Checked', I was not able to find either the stnnuq.dll file or a jkkIXqqo file/folder. I also removed the worldwinner games. Originally, I thought they were for some online casino but after I looked at the file names, I believe they are Yahoo games or something. In any case, I think I just tried them out one day.

Also, I noticed the Mirar toolbar in my Add/Remove programs still. I tried to remove it before but was unable to do so. I had read somewhere, and I am not sure if this is accurate or not, that if you try to remove it from there it does even more damage to your system. I am hesitant to do anything with it because I do not want to mess anything up again.

I will post another HJT log at the end of this reply to reflect any the fixed items. Is this one OK to leave?

Hi there,

{CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} is related to RealPlayer, so is legit. :thumbup2: If you've removed Real Player, then you can fix that entry if you like. It isn't harmful either way. :)

Let's have a look for Mirar. :step4:

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Thanks,
tea

Since it does show up there, go back to the list in HijackThis and highlight it, and look to the right where it gives the option to delete, and delete it. Reboot and see if it's still there. :step4:

Let me know how you come out. :thumbup2:

When I thought I had malicious software on my PC, I researched it and saw people recommended Revo uninstaller so I installed it. To be honest with you, I cant remember for sure if I ever tried to remove the Mirar toolbar with that or not.

It looks like it is gone from the Add/Remove Programs list now though :thumbup2:

My PC still pauses a little bit on the desktop right before it starts everything up but that may be due to something other than malicious software. Is there anywhere else I need to check for anything lingering around? :)

Also, should I start running the SBS&D TeaTimer now?

Hello,

Yes, turn Tea Timer back on. :thumbup2:

Let's see about that speed :) :

The following are not malware, but fixing them with HijackThis will improve your system's speed. None are necessary at startup, and may be started manually at any time. This is up to you. :step1:

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\UPDATE~1\isuspm.exe -startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LogitechImageStudioTray] F:\Program Files\Logitech\ImageStudio\LogiTray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Synchronizer.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AdobeCollabSync.exe

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Please delete ComboFix and its accompanying folder C:\Qoobox. Empty your Recycle bin and reboot your computer.

It should start faster now. :step4: You had a lot of unnecessary startups. Let me know. :step5:
