Hi everyone, first time user here!

So yesterday I got an email from paypal saying that they've restriced access on my account because they think something was happening. Sure enough, when I checked my account history I had a transaction (~$200) go through that I did NOT do. I phone paypal and they said that it was probably a keylogger -- they were really nice and said they would refund my money (phew!). Anyways, I changed all my passwords to important sites through a safe computer somewhere else and now am ready to scour my system.

I ran Spybot, Adaware, AVG, Malwarebytes, Spyware Doctor and Avast and found a few things to delete. Problem is, only Spybot and Spyware Doctor finished their scans -- the others all stalled and froze up after a certain point :S I let them run all day (not at the same time of course), and still no luck.

I'm on Vista Ultimate, running ZoneAlarm as a firewall. I used to have utorrent, but uninstalled it yesterday (vowing NEVER to download anything again). I just ran DDS, but I think something messed up because the black box gave me some "can't read" errors before the .txt stuff popped up...

Please tell me if I still have this horrible bug, and if so, how to sqash it!

Thanks a million!!

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums.

Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Please post the contents of log.txt.
Thank you for your patience.

Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem.

If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped.

Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so.

While we are working on your HijackThis log, please:
  • Reply to this thread; do not start another!
  • Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so.
  • Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so!
  • Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work.
  • Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix.
  • Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix.
  • Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.

Here you go (sorry suebaby41 for the confusion on reopening the thread, turns out Hoov did it). Oh, and thought I should mention I have an external harddrive too that I'm paranoid about.

suebaby41 has asked that I take over for her.

First thing to do is to update Spybot, Adaware, AVG, Malwarebytes, and Avast. Also following the instructions below, please download combofix to your desktop. Once the programs are updated and combofix is downloaded, reboot to safe mode. Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then Spybot (make sure you uncheck the box for Teatimer while you have it running, and then AdAware and then Avast. Make sure you save the log to each because you will need to attach them to your next post. Also for Spybot, to save the log you need to right click on the log when its done fixing the problems, and select save results to file. Now run combofix per the instructions. When it wants to reboot, let it reboot back into windows normally.

Attach all the logs to your next reply. Also let me know everything that is wrong with your computer. The more details the better.

Alright after a night of scanning, looks like everything's done (logs attached). As far as problems go, the biggest one was when Paypal contacted me about that $200 transaction I did not authorize. That has been the only credit card problem so far, so I'm crossing my fingers. After that, my system would freeze up sometimes (especially at start up) but that problem has seemingly disappeared. I have a few things in my virus scanner quarantines (not sure what to do with them), and actually while Avast was running in safe mode, it found one infected file -- i tried moving it to the chest, but it wouldn't allow me in safe mode, so I put it in the recycling bin (didn't know if i should delete it or not), but turns out that combofix emptied the recycling bin anyway I think :S

I used to have problems with blue screens, but I got registry programs to fix most of those I think
At startup there is a really irritating error that pops up (it flashes by so quickly that I never even get a chance to read it -- something about .NET framework)
Speaking of startup, it seems to be reeeeeally slow lately (especially it seems when starting up from battery)

thanks again, hope you'll be able to help!!

From the Avast scan I would go to C:\Windows\Temp and delete everything possible, then empty your recycle bin. Then run another Avast scan.

Do you have any USB thumbdrives or memory cards that you use? Or an external harddrive?

yes, I have a 500GB external harddrive and two usb thumbdrives (I'm pretty sure a viral file is on my external hdd, but AVG has it quarentined <it actually has 1 PUP, 5 warnings, and 1 infection quarentined>)

my computer won't let me delete file ZLT07d08.TMP in the C:\windows\temp folder because it's "in use"

i'm just starting another avast scan, will post the results after

alright, i ran a thorough avast scan again on local disks and it didn't find any infections (don't know where to find it's log, though). as i've said before, though, there are still infected things being kept in Malwarebyte's quarantine and AVG's vault.

- Trojan Horse Generic 12.AZUG in E:\Adobe Premier Pro CS3 crack file
- 5 Trojan.DNSChanger entries (c:\autorun.inf, c:\resycled, c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Startmenu\Programs\aquaplay\uninstall.ink, c:\Users\Devon\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\programs\aquaplay, and

For AVG, open the GUI and then click History and then Virus Vault. Then over on the right side along the bottom, there is an empty virus vault button, just click it, and they will be gone.

For Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware , go to the quarantine tab and select the Delete all Button in the middle.

Let me know how it goes.

Other than that, all I see is Java needs updating.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0.
Scroll down to where it says "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 12".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
UNCHECK the option to install Google Toolbar if you don't want it .
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u12-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
[*]Note: By default a box may be checked to install a toolbar - if you do not want to install it, then be sure to opt-out by unchecking that box.

Also if Adobe Acrobat isn't version 9 uninstall Adobe Acrobat and install Version 9
