no sound device

I have no sound. When I double click on my sound icon it says, "The audio device supported by this application is not detected." Please help

hi so I just spent the last 24 hrs not being able to get onto my computer at all. It would just show the windows screen and then go black. I just now played with it enough to where it is now working but I am scared to turn it off. After playing with it my sound works again. Windows XP home dell xps m1210

that happened to me too but McAFee found W32/Virut.n
Go scan your computer!!!
