I pick copper. Better heat transfer.

Actually, Silver is the better conductor. But is more expensive so is not used as much.

Silver does conduct heat better, no argument there. Silver also weighs 1.5 times more than Copper. That would be a mean heavy heatsink.

Silver would be best in terms of heat conductivity, but it is expensive and heavier than copper.

Then there is Gold?

Actually, Diamonds are best. But who can afford such?

Interesting. I've always been told even in my college classes that copper was the better deal at thin applications? Humm. I'm going to have to pick a bone with my professor.

The trick is how free the surface is from irregularities.
I'll put a lapped and polished aluminum heatsink up against a like copper one and come out on top

Oh wait.. I just noticed something. I meant Aluminum. Not silver. I'm confusing Aluminum which most heatsinks are made out of over copper. Oh well. Whoops.

Done.
I also deleted the 2 votes for Silver, since it no longer applies.

Material Thermal conductivity:

Diamond 895-2300
Silver 429
Copper 386
Gold 317
Aluminium 237
Brass 120
Platinum 71.6
Iron 80.2
Lead 35.3

I edited your title to change silver to aluminum, since silver is no longer a poll choice.

[I still vote Silver.]
