Windows will not boot after updating to Explorer 7

Hi. My daughter updated her laptop to Explorer 7 last night, 10 minutes later her computer shut down. Windows will not boot up now. Screen says windows improperly shut down. Black screen with options came up, I tried to go to last good configuration, but the blue screen saying that it was improperly shut down comes back up.

Hi :thumbsup:.

Try booting into the Recovery Console for XP...and run the chkdsk /r command, not chkdsk /p as stated below.

It was loaded on the laptop when we bought it. Only have system recovery disk.
