using the default microsoft program installer. Now there is no sound. I have rolled back the driver, but it still fails. What can I do? I can not even see the driver in the unistall driver section.

Try downloading the original driver from the support site of the computer manufacturer

Hi fireinthehole.

I have udated this driver many times. The first time it will uninstall the current driver and software. After rebooting you must use the .exe file again and this time it will install the drivers and software. This is usually explained when you first click the update .exe file.

As garmanma has explained, it is always better to go to the manufacturers site to obtain the updates.
