can i put an icon on the desktop to get to a website that i use often w/out doing a search each time?

Yes you can put an icon on your desktop to get to a website.
The quickest way to do this is to open up your web browser and go to the required website. Then left click on the website url in the address bar and drag a shortcut onto the desktop (you might have to make your browser window smaller to achieve this).

Or, right-click on the page and you'll get Create a shortcut.
