First of all, when you mean dinging noise, you mean a sound that is coming out of your PC speakers?

If so....

This is not just a fax machine, this is known as an all-in-one. aka AIO.
The dinging is probably and issue with the USB connection
Check the USB cable that is connected to the computer. Make sure the connection is good. If it is then try another cable if you already own another one.

However it could be a number of other things, including a driver issue.
If you have already tried the steps above, then try uninstalling the device completely from the computer by going to the Printers and Scanners section of the control panel.
Check if the device is still making noises through your speakers.

After that, to re-install the device drivers, head over here:
http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/download...s=229:1:0:0:0:0

to get the latest device drivers for the AIO.

Thankyou for your reply.
actually the sounds from my printer is ike it is trying to connect out of the blue for no reason at all whenever it wants. like it is getting ready to copy? it souinds like it is trying to grab the paper kind of noise like its trying to start or something ?? only it doesnt grab anything or start so it just gives up

the other dinging noise is comng from my computer.
it sounds like when something is connecting and then disconnecting directly after

like ding ding then ding ding right after

when normally that sound would only be ding ding then when it is finished and you disconnect it will go ding ding for it closing down
sorry dont know how else to describe

i suppose u want to pull out your eyebrows after this post huh?
lol

thanks again for your help!!
