Hi All,
I have been having problems with my admittedly old DVD writer/burner (NEC DVD RW ND 2500A) in that it won't recognise any blank DVD discs. However it did used to play bog standard shop bought DVD's. When I placed one in I used to right click and it would say "open with" and give a list of programs to use eg RealPlayer, Windows media player , Pinnacle etc; now I only have the Windows option and that won't play saying I need to adjust display settings. I did recently adjust the refresh rate but this shouldn't happen, should it? Or is it Windows/Microsoft trying to exclude rival players in their latest updates? I hope to replace the drive soon but my issue is with the restricted choice I now have. (I'm on XP).
Hope you can help,
Stellabelch.

I don't know how to update a post so I shall reply to myself for now; I have just discovered that both of my drives can play DVD's after all but that was via Computer management,Storage/Disk management. A list and table of drives appeared on the right and when I placed a DVD in, if you dbl clicked on video ts and then one of the files in there, it played.Stumped.
