Not sure what is going on I don't appear to have any virus's but all of a sudden my desktop seemed a little laggy so I thought that I would update my Vid drivers only to find out that the ATI drivers can't find my Vid card. so I thought that I would go to device manager and see what shows up in there. I load up device manager and there is nothing in there at all.. I rebooted to see if that was a problem and the reboot took about four times longer and still device manager doesn't appear and to top it off I had no lan I went into net connections and connected but this version is very different then any other internet connection, the icon look normal but when you open it up the internet connection status is different, I click on properties it just has one tab saying general there is a settings button, and when I press on that button it opens up another panel named services and in there it is blank with an add button at the bottom. I have know clue what is going on I really don't want to formate reinstall. this happens to me every time I get my OS setup the way I like it. I am running Winxp x64 . and to be totally honest I am not sure how I got connected up to the net except Ihad to turn off my looknstop firewall. any help and or suggestions would be appreciated .

This sounds like you have a infection, what have to scanned with to determine that you don't think it is an infection?

Just to rule out a software problem try using the System Restore.

Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore.

When this opens make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is chosen, and click on Next>.
The dates appearing in bold are the dates that you can restore to, click on the date that you want and then click Next> to start the System Restore, you may get the message telling you that you will have to restart your computer to start, click ok. When the computer restarts and you have logged on as the administrator a Restoration Complete page will appear, click on OK to complete the process.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

To correct this problem you can go to Start -> Run and type MSCONFIG There choose services tab and check for Plug and Play Devices. Double click and open the same. Check for STartup type, it should be automatic. If the service is started then stop the same and start it once again. After this go to device manager and check.
