So, recently, I contracted a virus, inexplicably. It started off with the "Bad Image" virus, but through running Verizon Antivirus, AVG, Spybot and Adaware, this was halted (or at least, it seems to be gone.) But, I'm still getting a lot of pop-ups and Adaware registers viruses such as Ultimate Cleaner, DriveCleaner, Adware.Seecha and Virtumonde. There was also something called iCheck and dl_Cats in the Program Files that I manually removed (I know, stupid idea; but I didn't know that at the time.)

Adaware seems to show a lot of the infections, but can't clean them. Nothing seems to be able to get rid of it. So, I tried HijackThis, but I need help...

I've had this going on for three or four days now. I'm computer retarded, so any help would be wonderful. Here's the log file:

Please help. And if possible, could you provide information on how I could avoid this problem in the future? I don't know how I contracted it, so I don't know what preventive measures can be taken.

Thank you. When I scanned, however, this popped up:

Certain items could not be removed! The first few are listed below. All items that could be removed have been added to the delete on reboot list. Please restart your computer now. A logfile was sent to the Logs folder.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\(67766853-4cc0-4d65-b3ff-5ac9aae12e4f}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{67766853-4cc0-4d65-b3ff-5ac9aae12e4f}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA\Authentication Packages Data:
c:\windows\system32\khfcttsm

I have Spybot on and it asked me something which I approved right before it went through. Could that have affected it?

Hello,

You're welcome. :)

Yes, Tea Timer could have. It's really good at what it does.....sometimes too good! :thumbup2: Go ahead and disable Tea Timer, and Ad Watch if you have it on. It will do the same thing. Then please run MBAM again and post the report. How is it running now?

Thanks,
tea

Hello,

Good. :thumbup2: I wanted to be sure that all the files to be deleted on reboot were indeed deleted. :step1:

The lines I wanted you to fix with HijackThis are mostly still there. Tea Timer probably interfered, as you didn't have it off when we did it the first time around. Nothing dangerous, just some clutter. You can also uninstall the Ask Bar if you don't use it. It usually comes bundled with other programs you might have downloaded and don't even know it's there. :step4:

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3A098335-24E7-4520-B88D-5A3C5FE14AC7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tuvvtuSi.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: Verizon Broadband Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-8CB0-AB60BB9AAE22} - C:\PROGRA~1\VOL_TO~1\VOL_TO~1.DLL (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {67766853-4CC0-4D65-B3FF-5AC9AAE12E4F} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CDBBD166-DBB0-4B1B-9582-3CF2D1E57FA6} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E1AD7859-F02E-47BB-8A69-59E559EA5821} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: Ask Toolbar - {3041d03e-fd4b-44e0-b742-2d9b88305f98} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll <---if you uninstalled it.
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddcaYQig - ddcaYQig.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: ISS Application Pool Process (ISSAppPlPro) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\w3wp.exe (file missing)

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

If you uninstalled it, then delete the following folder :

C:\Program Files\AskBarDis

Reboot your computer.

Otherwise everything looks good. :)

On the Comodo, I see the suite.......if you're running the AntiVirus as well as the Firewall, then that's something we need to address, since you run AVG. When you do this both programs compete for resources, and the end result is neither does it's best and can cause system instability. I recommend that you choose the one you want to keep, update it, disable or uninstall the other one, and use it as an on demand only scan occasionally. If you're only using the Comodo firewall, then you don't need to do anything. :step5:

Let me know how you come out.

Thanks,
tea

Really? I figured it would just stack for added layers of protection. See what I mean by computer retarded? XD

But alright. I'll uninstall Comodo and just use AVG. Is there anything else I should do? And does the same thing work with Adaware and Spybot? Because I have them running too.

Hello,

You aren't computer retarded....lol....we all have to learn. These are things they don't teach you on paper in the "real world". Now you're a bit more savvy. :)

It's all right to run AdAware and Spybot together. :thumbup2: They do different things, therefore they aren't in competition with each other. If you completely uninstalled Comodo, then please download it again, only this time choose ONLY the firewall. You need one. You'll find a tutorial on why below......

If there are no further problems:

Below I have included a number of recommendations on how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously! These few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

Regularly go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer. You should also turn on the Windows automatic update feature.

It is very important to maintain your Firewall.
A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here.

In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. A lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Please make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place

Take care!

I already use Mozilla Firefox and never did any of the bulleted suggestions. Though, I don't regularly update Windows, which may have been a problem. But I'll definitely check out all of those links.

I have AVG set to automatically scan regularly. I didn't have AVG, Spybot and Adaware before this incident because my mom had shelled out money for Verizon Antivirus, but it was garbage.

Thank you for all the help. <3

I know that. My mom didn't consult me on it at all. She just did it. It's gone from my computer, now, though.

By the way, does Comodo have Stealth Mode?
